Alice Marie Stevens

Alice Marie Stevens, 91, passed away December 14, 2019, at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Wellness where she had just recently moved. 

Born January 9, 1928, on a homestead in Lucerne, Wyo., she was one of six children of John and Blanch (Brown) Hammett. The family moved to Montana where Alice attended country schools until entering high school in Billings where she met her future husband. The school needed a cook, so Alice dropped out of school to take on the cooking job. The school later became Rocky Mountain College.

On September 20, 1945, she married Alfred "Al" Stevens in Billings, Mont. To this union six children were born. The couple, with their growing family, moved to Wyoming in 1959 and then to Thermopolis in 1976.

After raising her family, Alice worked at the Big T Drive-In, Owl Lumber, Canyon Hills Manor and Coast to Coast. Her favorite past-time was bowling.

She is survived by her sons, Alfred, Jr (Denise) of Bethlehem, Pa., Lance of Denver, Michael (Latrell) of Thermopolis, Bruce (Nancy) of Spearfish, S.D., and Rudy (Joann) of Rock Springs; daughter, Valli Cotter of Denver; siblings, Roberta Williams of Kalispell, Mont., and Lee Hammett of Sheridan, Wyo .; eighteen grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great, great-grandchildren. 

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Olive, John Jr and Ina Belle; husband, Al; and son-in-law, Dan Cotter.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be offered in Alice's name to a charity of choice.
