September ArtsStroll hits town

“Get Your Chalk On” is the theme this weekend as downtown Thermopolis businesses celebrate chalk and pastels by hosting artists and activities during the September Second Friday ArtStroll/Still Strolling Saturday. The ArtStroll takes place from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, and during regular business hours on Saturday.

A chalk art contest will beautify the sidewalks. Artists of all ages are encouraged to register at Thermopolis Print Zone for a square of sidewalk to decorate with chalk. For more details, please see flyers at local businesses, or contact Toddi at 921-4640. Chalk will be available or bring your own.

Stroll into the Flying Eagle Gallery on Friday to decorate a mask in preparation for the Halloween ArtStroll next month. These masks can either be displayed or worn during next month’s October ArtStroll. Also on display will be some of the work completed by artists during the Plein Air event last weekend.

We would like to welcome Krista’s (formerly Front Porch, on Arapahoe) to the ArtStroll who will host Cydnee Hillhouse and her display of abstract fluid art. Hillhouse describes herself as a “young aspiring artist using color, painting, and creating as therapy.”

Marcia Nelson can be found by strolling along Broadway. Nelson will be displaying a collection of fused glass, watercolors, and pastels.

Across the street, Angela Siems will return this month with her landscape and still life art using pastels and oils. Be on the lookout for Audrey Hensley, an eighth grader at Thermopolis Middle School. Her display will include subjects as varied as landscape and anime.

Strollers are encouraged to pick up a map at any Stroll business to find the location of artists. Return the map to the host business, Thermopolis Print Zone for a chance at special prizes. Marilyn Kohler’s art show can be viewed at the Thermopolis Print Zone as well.

The Second Friday ArtStroll/Still Strolling Saturday is organized by Hot Springs Greater Learning Foundation and Smoking Waters Art Guild with additional support from Main Street Thermopolis, Hot Springs Travel & Tourism and local businesses and individuals.
