Bobcat Hall of Fame induction ceremony

Inductees for the 2019 Bobcat Hall of Fame have been announced. They include Colte Russell as Male Athlete, Curt Wyss as Male Athlete, Leroy Hayes as Coach/Administrator and the 1979 Boys Golf Team.

Colte Russell – Colte Russell is a 1993 graduate of Hot Springs County High School and lettered in football and track. As a Bobcat football player, he was a member of the three-time State Champion teams in 1990, 1991 and 1992.

Russell was named the 2A Player of the Year in football in 1992. He was a two-time All-Conference player, a two-time All-State player and was a member of the North team in the Shrine Bowl. Russell lettered four years in track in the discus and shot put. He placed at the State Track and Field Meet in his sophomore, junior and senior years.

Curt Wyss – Curt Wyss is a 1986 graduate of Hot Springs County High School and was a four-year letterman in football and track, a three-year letterman in basketball and was a letterman in wrestling one year.

Wyss was named All-Conference in football in 1984 and 1985. He was named Wyoming Defensive Player of the Year in 1985 and was the National Guard Player of the Week on five occasions. Wyss was a member of the North team in the 1986 Shrine Bowl.

As a basketball player, he earned the Sixth Man Award in 1984, the Outstanding Player Award in 1985 and was Second Team All-Conference in 1986. As a Bobcat track member, Wyss was All-Conference and was a member of the then school record 4x100 relay team. Wyss went on to play football at Rocky Mountain College and was named First Team All-Conference in addition to earning Academic All-Conference honors for four years at RMC.

Leroy Hayes – Leroy Hayes coached for over 30 years at Hot Springs County High School. He served as an assistant coach in football, wrestling and track and field. He was the Head Wrestling Coach for the Bobcats from 1980-92, was the Head Coach for the Track and Field team in 2004, and served as Head Coach of the Indoor Track team from 2005-11. He was an assistant coach on the Bobcat football team that won three straight state titles in 1990-92 and the runner-up team in 1994.

Hayes coached five state wrestling champions over his career and had 51 state wrestling place winners. He served as the HSCHS Athletic Director in 1995-96.

The football field at Hot Springs County High School is named in his honor.

1979 Boys Golf Team – The 1979 Boys Golf Team won the State Championship by 11 strokes over Wheatland. Team members were John Curtin, Ken “Rowdy” Thompson, Paul Phillabaum, Mike Conner and Tom Sullivan. Bobcat Head Coach was Jack O’Neal.

The induction ceremony for the Hall of Fame will be held Friday, July 19 at 6 p.m. in the high school commons area.
