Slow down

Sometimes its good to let the mind meander back to the “good ol’ days” when life was more simple. It shows us how far we have come, how much we have progressed and allows us to dream about what the future may hold.

In the good ol’ days summers were filled with children riding their bikes downtown, Crazy Days when all the business people dressed up in costumes and brought their best bargains out on the street, parades that had dozens of tissue covered floats and streets lined with people to enjoy the show.

Our busy lives have taken away the simple fun of taking a walk through the park or even through our own neighborhoods. It often feels as if we’ve lost our connection as a community. We’re so busy building our future or planning our next move that we forget the wonderful feeling of sitting on the porch steps eating watermelon and spitting the seeds to see whose goes the furthest.

How wonderful would it be if the Gift of the Waters parade were filled with floats? Could you imagine just strolling through the park eating an ice cream cone, enjoying the flowers that the park crews worked so hard to plant?

Go ahead, feed the fish in the cooling ponds. Sit on a bench downtown and watch the world go by. Talk with the tourists about all the wonderful things there are to do in Thermopolis. Take a walk through your neighborhood.

Life passes us by so quickly and summers are gone in an instant. Take time to smell those roses.
