Information sought in vandalism

The Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information regarding the Sunday vandalism of the Gooseberry Rest Area between Thermopolis and Meeteetse on Highway 120.

According to information from Hot Springs County Sheriff Jerimie Kraushaar, a deputy responded to the rest area at about 10:15 a.m.; the vandalism reportedly occurred around 8 a.m. according to the sheriff’s office Facebook page.

Kraushaar said it appears a male and female subject entered the rest area with two dogs — a pit bull and a poodle — as well as a couple kennels believed to contain puppies. Damage to the facility includes toilet paper dispensers taken off walls and feces spilled on the floor, and it appears the restroom sinks were used to clean out the kennels.

Kraushaar added WYDOT personnel reported the vandalism was the worst they’ve seen. Those with information on the incident are encouraged to call 864-2622.
