Eugene 'Geno' Lewis Edkins

Eugene "Geno" Lewis Edkins, 93, passed away November 17, 2018, at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Wellness Center where he had resided the past two years.

Born on Valentine's Day in 1925 in Elba, Colo., he was one of five children of Edward and Laura (Bell) Edkins. He worked with his family on the farm until entering the US Army at the age of 18. After his discharge he became a foreman on the Burlington Northern Railroad for six years.

He married Dorothy Ellen Axtell in the 1940's in St. Francis, Kan. With the forthcoming family, they moved to Fort Morgan, Colo., where he was the produce manager for a market eighteen years. When the business closed he moved to Brush, Colo., being employed as produce manager at Shors Super Market for eight years, then retired.

During retirement he became a "ramblin' man" living in several states until settling in Riverton, then moving to Thermopolis in the early 2000's. He entertained people in nursing homes with his singing and guitar playing. He loved to dance, especially to Western music. Geno enjoyed working with Kindergartners as a Foster Grandparent, coloring right along with them. He later resided at the Wyoming Pioneer Home until moving to TRW.

He is survived by his sons, Rick of Florence, Colo., and Terry (Jacque) of Cody, Wyo .; daughter-in-law, Carolyn; grandchildren, Wendy, Beverly, Theresa, Susie, Laycee and Corey; numerous great-grandchildren and friends; and special friend, Virginia Smith.

He was preceded in death by his former wife; twin sister, Maxine; infant sister, Sybil; brothers, Ed, Jr and Glenn; and an infant great-grandson.

Cremation has taken place and burial was held November 21 at Monument Hill Cemetery.
