“It was great to see the whole event come together after we put in so much work to get everything together,” state intern Joanna Harris said.

As temperatures reached 100 degrees on July 6, three college interns made multiple trips to take water to shotgun, .22, and muzzleloader ranges located outside of town. The archery, air rifle, and air pistol ranges were on the Wyoming State Fair grounds and stayed much cooler.

All of the different competitions and disciplines had one thing in common though, stiff competition.

“As a first time spectator at state shoot I was impressed with the quality of competition and the friendly environment,” Darci Tamlin, an intern of Converse County said. Tamlin competed with livestock while she was in 4-H and is happy to be learning about the numerous opportunities offered through the program.

Shooting sports is one of the most popular 4-H projects in Wyoming, and is proud to have immense support from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. The RMEF had a booth in Douglas all three days of the event offering membership renewals and a gun raffle fundraiser for 4-H.
