Eugene Kuhman

Eugene Roland Kuhman, 75, passed away at his residence in Hot Springs County, Wyo., Tuesday, March 6, 2018, after a period of declining health.

Born July 28, 1942, in Yorkville, Ill., he was the son of Frederick and Eileen (Briggs) Kuhman. Graduating in 1960, he joined the Air Force serving from 1960-1964.

In June of 1967 Gene married Laura J. Holstein in Yorkville. Moving to Colorado in 1970, he established his own construction/remodel business, which he operated 30 years. In 1973, he graduated from Gunsmith Trade School. Gene built his family's home in the mountains of Colorado in 1983. In 2000, the couple sold the home, purchased 40 acres outside Thermopolis building a second home there.

Gene joined the NRA in 1970. At the time of his death, he was an NRA Patriot Life, Benefactor Level member. He lived his life with a strong conviction of family first, and secondly gun ownership and the right to speak, and speak loudly. His interests included hunting, shooting, camping, nature, building furniture and gunsmithing. He was raised in the Methodist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Laura of 50 years; daughter, Rebecca (Ken) Jean Kuhman-Lloyd of Black Hawk, Colo .; brothers, Norm (Ellie) Kuhman of Yorkville and Forest (Carole) Kuhman of Kent, Wash .; sisters, Mary (Steve) Kapernekas of Plano, Ill., and Rosie (Don) Burton of Sheridan, Ill .; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services and a reception will be held Friday, March 23 at 2 p.m. at Mortimore Funeral Home in Thermopolis. Interment services will be held in Denver at the Fort Logan National Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Hot Springs County Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 545, Thermopolis, 82443
