TMS team wins championship

This past weekend saw the Thermopolis Middle School eighth grade "B" team emerge the champions at their home tournament.

Coach Shane Corpening stated in their first game against Lander the boys jumped to a 19-10 lead in the first half thanks to a strong defensive second quarter. Though Lander tried to take a run in the fourth, some timely shots and good free throws put the Bobcats ahead 35-32 at the final buzzer.

In the second game, against Worland, there were many ties and lead changes, and the boys came back from a four-point deficit to a five-point lead. Though Worland cut their own deficit down to one, strong Bobcat defense kept them from making one last shot and the final score was 29-28.

In the championship game against Cody, Corpening said, "We did not start well and got behind by ten in the first quarter. After the first quarter we made some key defensive adjustments and were able to hold them to ten points the rest of the game. We struggled to find our own offensive groove at times in this one so our defense really lifted us." The final score was 31-24.

"Overall," Corpening said, "it was a great day to be a Bobcat. Our team played hard and executed well. I am extremely proud of this group and what they were able to accomplish over the course of the season and on Saturday. The sky is the limit for this group. Also, I appreciate our staff and community's support as I said, I have not heard the gym that loud before!"

The "A" team will play their tournament in Powell this weekend.
