TMS students to rake leaves

Those who need a little help getting fallen leaves off their property can get that assistance through the students at Thermopolis Middle School. This year marks the fifth that the school is providing the service.

Secretary Brenda Cornwell said the leaf raking is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27. Anyone who wants their leaves raked can contact the school at 864-6551 to be placed on the list. She added it’s the school’s way to give back to the community.

The raking will go until about 11 a.m., Cornwell said, with groups of 10-12 students going to locations on the list. There are usually about 15-20 places to go, she said, and the kids are great about getting busy and working hard.

If possible, groups are sent to areas where addresses are within walking distance of each other. If it’s too far to go from one house to the next by foot, students will be taken by bus.

Students must have their own rakes, which are dropped off at the school by parents. The kids will travel by school bus to locations on the list, and rakes are not allowed on the busses. Instead, the tools will be transported via truck by school staff.

Though students must supply their own rakes, the school provides bags for the leaves, and all leaves will be disposed of properly.
