Fall horse sale planned

The 16th Annual Fall WYO Quarter Horse Ranch Sale is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Hot Springs County Fairgrounds. The sale is set to begin at 1 p.m., with a performance preview at 9 a.m.

The day before, on Friday, Sept. 8, there will be a “Parade of Geldings” preview, beginning at 7 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Carole Smith noted for sale there will be 32 broke geldings, 32 started two-year-olds, eight yearlings and 27 weanlings. Smith further added the two-year-olds, yearlings and weanlings are all home raised.

The sales regularly bring in people from all over and quite a bit of money, as the spring sale saw over $620,000. That sale saw 47 geldings, which averaged $13,447. The top 10 averaged $20,300, and the top 20 averaged $17,725.

Ten two-year-olds were also sold, averaging $5,533, as well as 14 yearlings averaging $2,842 and two two-year-old stallions averaging $12,250. The high seller at the spring sale was a gelding that went for $29,000 to a buyer from Massachusetts.

Those who want a sneak peak of some of the animals that will be up for sale can check out Equestrian Nation on the RFD station on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 12:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. for a look at the two-year-olds and broke geldings.
