Speech team headed to Worland

Hot Springs County High School’s speech and debate team had a successful weekend at the Greybull tournament, coming home with a third place win in 3A.

Every member of the team scored points over the weekend with many bringing home medals for their hard work.

Hannah Hu brought home a sixth place in oratory, Tyler Kay and Katie Burrows placed third with their duet, Ashley Brawley came out fourth in humor, Reilly Russell took fifth in poetry, Breeze Petty and Kyle Mosser placed sixth in PF debate and Aaron Hanson placed second in drama and fourth in POI.

“They had a terrific weekend,” coach Cindy Glasson said. “It was a smaller tournament, but it allowed these kids to see where they really stand.

“At this point in the season they are exactly where they need to be. The change in every one of them has been so amazing to watch, going from having no clue what they were getting into to coming home with medals.

“For them to be where they are right now shows the work they’ve put in all season. Now we’re down to just one tournament, Worland, before we go to State in Green River. These next practices are going to be intense for them. We’ll be fine tuning every single piece.”

Glasson added that this weekend in Worland is a perfect time for parents or anyone else who is curious about speech and debate to come watch the team.

Rounds at the Worland meet will begin on Friday just after noon and start again on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the high school.
