Four vie for congressional seat

Among the races this year is a two-year term as the United States congressional representative for Wyoming.

Republican candidate Liz Cheney is a conservative and advocate for a strong America, and has been prominent in defending constitutional rights.

She wants to reduce the size, scope and authority of the federal government, defend the state’s energy, mining, agriculture and livestock industries, restore the country’s strength, secure borders, ensure veterans have healthcare they deserve, reduce debt and taxes, and protect Second Amendment rights.

Cheney is married to Philip Perry and they live in Wilson, Wyoming with their five children. Her family has called Wyoming home for four generations.

Democratic candidate Ryan Greene believes in keeping public lands in the hands of the public, as well as diversification of Wyoming’s economy. He also wants to work to keep programs such as Social Security and Medicare, supports the Second Amendment and believes education and healthcare should be top priorities.

Born and raised in Rock Springs, Greene has 18 years of experience working in Wyoming’s energy industry through his family’s business, Greene’s Energy Group, where he’s worked as a roustabout, pipe welder, certified welding inspector, project manager and operations director. He’s also an avid hunter, camper and fisherman.

Libertarian candidate Gerard Struempf wants to help protect rights and freedoms of the American people, improve education and protect quality of teachers and schools, and improve the economy by protecting industries exploring opportunities.

Raised in Fremont County, Struempf has been an active leader in organizations such as Kiwanis and the Laramie Rotary Club. He stated he’s running to work for the people and with the people to solve problems. He also has background in tech, ag and education, which he believes will make him a valuable member of Congress.

Constitution representative Daniel Clyde Cummings stated he has learned by experience that local problems and political challenges vary greatly. This he has learned having lived all around the country, including the Washington D.C. area. This varied living experience, he stated, has helped him understand the problems and the solutions.

Cummings further stated he’s fascinated by the U.S. Constitution, and began a serious and in-depth study of it beginning at age 14. He has also practiced medicine for nearly 38 years in various states. In that time, he’s been self-employed, he stated, and has learned about the challenges of running a personal business; he’s also worked for hospitals, and understands the challenges of being employed by others.
