Woodturning

Barrie Lynn Bryant is a member of the Worland Wyoming Woodturners guild and will demonstrate at the Big Horn Basin Folk Festival in Hot Springs State Park this weekend. A member of the Society of Gilder, he is an expert wood gilder, a craft that dates back at least to Medieval times.

Other members of the group will be demonstrating woodburning and other projects. The group will also be making spinning tops, as well as yo-yos from Wyoming Whiskey barrel staves. They will have three lathes on which they will be demonstrating; visitors can even try one out.

The Woodturners will be at the festival both days, starting at 9 a.m.

They are the only club in the state that is an official chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. Membership includes residents of Thermopolis and other towns in the Big Horn Basin. "One of our most dedicated members is Dave Thomas, from Thermopolis," said Bryant.

The club meets on the second Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. in Worland. There is no charge to become a member.
