Shirley Gardner

Shirley Kaye Gardner, 76, passed away on June 27, 2016, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis, following her courageous battle with cancer. 

Shirley was born in Hot Springs, S. D., on Nov. 10, 1939, to Paul and Phylis Hibbs. She graduated high school from Hot Springs High in Hot Springs, S. D.  

Following graduation Shirley moved to Thermopolis, Wyo., where she met the love of her life John Whorton Gardner at a dance in Casper. Two years later, John and Shirley were joined in marriage on Nov. 14, 1967, where they shared love and romance for the next 48 years. To this union, Shirley and her husband were blessed with two sons and three daughters:  sons Terry and Calvin of Thermopolis, daughters Pam (Greg) of Riverton, Mireille (Ray) and Jodie (Ken) of Thermopolis. Her grandchildren are Nathen (Molly), Shawn (Jessica), Marcus, Anthony (Lori), Trinity, Desiree (Kish), Erica (Connor), Tasha (Christian), Destanee, Kristina and Larissa. Her beautiful great-grandchildren include Jahzara, Bensen, Amilia, Bailey and Luna.

While in Thermopolis, she found herself working for the Wyoming Pioneer Home where she lovingly dedicated the next 20 years to helping others as the home's cook. Shirley was involved in many community activities including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Good SAMs club and is remembered for her amazing craftsmanship as a seamstress and crocheting wonderful works of art. Shirley was also known for creating the most astounding cakes, cookies and other goodies with loving hands for her family and friends, especially for her grandchildren which she cherished.  

Shirley is survived by her brothers, Leroy (Sharon) of Gillette, Larry (Nila) of Minneapolis, Minn., and Kenny (Judy) of Loveland, Colo .; sisters, Betty-Jo (Jerry) of Casper, Patty (Milton) of Sparks, Nev,

She is preceded in death by her sister Bonnie.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 1 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Internment will immediately follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services.
