People of the Earth June 23-26

This year’s People of the Earth Days will be June 23-26. It will be a cultural and natural discovery weekend with authors Michael Gear and Kathy O’Neal Gear, with an array of events.

The weekend will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday with a “Welcome Reception with the Gears” at the Days Inn Hot Springs Convention Center and an evening of conversation.

From 8-9:30 a.m. Friday attendees will participate in The Wyoming Dinosaur Dig Tour. Then from 9:30-11 a.m., attendees will get a guided tour through The Wyoming Dinosaur Center with Greg Willson. From 5-9 p.m., The Gears will give a reading from the book they are working on during “A Night At the Museum” at the Hot Springs County Museum. Barb Vietti will lead an optional hike of Monument Hill from 2-3 p.m. A tour of Merlin’s Hide Out will follow at 3 p.m. The rest of the afternoon and evening will be free of scheduled events and will allow individuals to enjoy attractions in Thermopolis.

From 8 a.m.-noon on Sunday Barb Vietti will lead the Hot Springs Geological Tour. Dr. Steve Horn will give lectures on Wildlife in the Basin. At 2 p.m., there will be an Ice Cream Social with the Gears at Black Bear Café. From 3-4 p.m., there will be a book signing with the Gears at Storyteller. Authors Lucia St. Claire Roboson, Dr. Steve Horn, Larry J. Martin and Kat Martin will also be present. A Conclusion Party will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the Days Inn Hot Springs Convention Center.

The cost is $175 each for adults the weekend of events. Children 17 and under are half price and must be accompanied by a registered adult. Registration will be taken until the Welcome Reception on Thursday, June 23.
