Study leads to county road speed limit changes, postings

Recently, Hot Springs County partnered with WyT2/LTAP, the local tech transfer through the engineering department at University of Wyoming. Road and Bridge Supervisor Dave Schlager explained a study was done to establish some engineered speed limits on area roads.

Through the study, Schlager said, it was determined East Sunnyside will remain with a posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour (mph). West Sunnyside's speed limit actually increased, he noted, going from 40 mph to 45.

Along East River Road, the Black Willow subdivision has been a posted 35 mph, but the speed limit is now posted through the remainder of the paved area. Cowboy Mine Road now has a 45 mph limit.

Schlager said he has not heard any negative feedback, but noted someone did pull a speed limit sign on East River Road. The intent of posting the limits is to help get the public traveling at safe speeds. There have been quite a number of fender benders on East River Road, Schlager said, especially when it is slick. He added the guard rails were also recently replaced on the paved section of East River.
