Prayer Service for Christian Unity Monday

For the faithful wishing to join forces and pray for Christian Unity during these trying times, a community prayer service will be held at Bicentennial Park from 12:15-12:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 11.

The prayer service coincides with the Week of Christian Unity, started by the Anglican Church in New York in 1908. Over the last 100 years, the service has grown from a local event to an international week devoted to prayer.

According to Father Hugo Blotsky, the purpose of the prayer service, “Is in response to the Lord’s command that Christians pray and work together ‘…so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me’ (John 17:21).”

Participating churches in this prayer service are: Community Federated Church, Holy Trinity Episcopal, Hot Springs Christian, Living Waters Assembly of God, River of Life Fellowship, and St. Francis Catholic.

Four community prayer services are held every year in Thermopolis. This week’s Prayer Service for Christian Unity will be the first, followed by the World Day of Prayer in May, September’s Prayer for the Nation, and a Thanksgiving service in November.

The prayer service will be moved to the River of Life Fellowship at 319 Broadway if weather does not permit it to be held in Bicentennial Park.
