Gilbert Snyder

Gilbert Franklin Snyder, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at his home in Glencoe, Okla. surrounded by his family who loved him.

He was born on January 1, 1932, in Marysville, Pa. to Sylvia (Weaver) Snyder and Albert R. Snyder. He attended school in Marysville, Pa. and married Dorothy Irene Silvers on June 22, 1979, in Edmond, Okla.

He lived in Edmond till 1981 when the couple moved to Wyoming where they worked till 1994 when they moved to Stillwater. While he was in Wyoming he served as the Mayor of Kirby for four years.

Gilbert worked at the Ralston Purina Company for fourteen years, worked at the steel plant for eighteen years, and worked at hospital maintenance in Wyoming for thirteen years. He was a member of Sunnybrook Christian Church.

He was a Corporal in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. During his time in Korea he received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars.

He is survived by his sons, Steven and Jeffrey Snyder; daughter, Jeanette Cassel; grandchildren whom he raised Chad Toomey and Franky Kukuk; stepchildren Mike Goff, David Goff, Charles Goff, Gary Goff, Kathy Goff, Pamela Smith, Carol Toomey, and Peggy Sue Goff; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; as well as many friends and loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; six brothers; and four sisters

Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, August 2, 2015, at First Christian Church in Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made in Gilbert's name to the First Christian Church LIFE Adult Day Health Center, 411 W Matthews, Stillwater, OK 74075.
