  • Bringing the sound out of bowls

    Mark Dykes, Assistant Editor|Apr 14, 2016

The room is quiet, except for a low hum. The sound grows as others join it - some higher, others lower - until vibrations can be felt in the body and the room fills with an almost haunting sound. Then, the voices join. This is the regular setting for the Circle Song Circles, which utilizes crystal bowls to make music. Imagine running a finger along the edge of crystal glass to produce sound. The same concept applies to the bowls, with a much richer sound. Rather than a finger, bowl players use...

It's not Rammell's first foray into politics, as it's been a part of his life for 20 years. He grew up on the Wyoming/Idaho line, in the small town of Teton Valley....

    Mark Dykes, Assistant Editor|Apr 14, 2016

Archers take their positions, waiting for the word to loose their arrows. As they fire, various animals become home to the colorful projectiles. Fortunately for the targets, they're only mock-ups of real animals. Extension Office Administrative Assistant Vicki Nichols said the 4-H Shooting Sports has been a project as long as there has been a 4-H in the county, but in the last three years it has flourished. • Sense of community

    Mark Dykes, Assistant Editor|Apr 7, 2016

My first experience in Thermopolis I can barely recollect if I concentrate hard enough. Of course, that was when I was eight years old, and most of my memories center around yelling my heart out at the exhilaration I felt going down a spiraling slide that went in and out of a tower, as well as eating at a restaurant filled with animal heads. Had the dinosaur center been around at the time, it certainly would've been added among them. Twenty-five years later and a few feet taller, my perspective...
