Two battle for House District 28 seat

Two candidates — Howard Samelson and Nathan Winters — will be on the general election ballot for the Wyoming State Representative of House District 28. Both spoke at the candidate forum.

Democratic candidate Samelson stated he wanted everyone’s help in making sure they, as well as their friends and neighbors, get out and vote. That choice, he said, that vote is the most important thing they can do. Relating to his platform, Samelson said he wants to make sure everyone has a choice — a choice for change, for candidates and for positions.

Samelson believes individual freedoms must be protected, public lands must be kept in public hands, local institutions must be locally managed, Medicaid must be expanded, the Wyoming Food Freedom Act must include all meat products and all possibilities for economic diversification must be invested in.

Republican candidate Winters, the State Representative for the past four years, recapped what he has been a part of in that time.

He said he’s tried to consistently stand for the principles he outlined when he initially ran for office, and he’s fought for free speech, the right to keep and bear arms.

He added he’s also developed and won the battle to help those caught between state and federal governments, specifically with regard to the wolf issue, and voted for two general budgets that funded basic needs of government at the local level but against two supplemental budgets that isolated funds in the southeast corner of the state rather than allowing them to be distributed through cities, towns and counties.
