On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest. Names of minors are not printed.

Thursday, March 19

Unknown time: John Dodge, 70, was arrested on March 19, 2026, and charged with three felony counts of failure to register two personal email accounts, and a personal social media account, under Wyoming’s Registered Sex Offender statute.

Tuesday, March 24

4:17 p.m. A 52-year-old male was issued a citation for failing to maintain a single lane of travel following a REDDI report.

Thursday, March 26

3:09 p.m. Request to trespass an individual from a business.

3:43 p.m. Report of a person who received a phone call that was attempting to gather personal information for possible identity theft.

Sunday, March 29

9:38 a.m. A deputy located a diseased deer that posed a traffic hazard and put it down.

11:20 a.m. A deputy responded to a residence where a juvenile was reported to be using a controlled substance.

2:51 p.m. Agency assist for the police department.

Monday, March 23

5:14 p.m. Officers conducted a probation check in the 100 block of Highway 20 South.

Tuesday, March 24

5:24 a.m. Report to two runaway juveniles. The juveniles were located safe and returned home.

9:04 a.m. Report of several ordinance violations in the 200 block of 12th Street.

9:57 a.m. Probation check in the 300 block of 6th Street.

3:12 p.m. Officers took a report of a credit card being fraudulently used.

Friday, March 27

10:11 a.m. Report of an abandoned vehicle in the 700 block of Arapahoe Street.

1:12 p.m. Possible domestic in the 700 block of Arapahoe. Daniel Higgs, 70, was arrested for alleged strangulation.

Saturday, March 28

11:42 p.m. Report of an injured deer in a yard in the 600 block of Washakie Street. It was determined the deer possibly had chronic wasting syndrome. Game and Fish were contacted and gave permission to dispatch the deer. The deer was put down.

4:48 p.m. A cell phone was reported as stolen in the 400 block of Arapahoe Street. As a result of the investigation, Jeremy McDonough, 19, was arrested for alleged theft.

11:20 a.m. Agency assist for the sheriff’s office.

4 p.m. Report of a verbal altercation in the 1100 lock of Sundown Drive. A 53-year-old male was trespassed from the property.

Monday March 23

6:51 p.m. Black column of smoke approximately 30-40 feet high at the intersection on Black Mountain Road and Kirby Creek.

Wednesday March 25

4:26 p.m. Smoldering grass within 100 feet of a house was reported on West Sunnyside Lane.

Saturday, March 28

7:14 p.m. Grass Fire from a controlled burn at mile marker 776 on Black Mountain Road.
