On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

All information, reports, records, etc. received or kept by any municipal, county or state officer or employee evidencing any legal or administrative process or disposition resulting from a minor’s misconduct are confidential and subject to the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Sheriff’s office

Monday, July 7

9:05 a.m. Agency assist for a medical facility.

2:27 p.m. Report of a two vehicle crash with minor injuries.

Tuesday, July 8

8:07 a.m. Multiple 911 emergency messages were reviewed from a phone in the Wind River Canyon. Deputies found that a railroad employee phone had gone off while he was working believing he was in a car crash. All employees were fine and no crash occurred.

2:18 p.m. Deputies assists with a utility issue after a power line was found to have broken, causing small explosions and fires that were put out. The utility company responded to repair the issue.

7: 41 p.m. Investigation of a burglary of an unoccupied structure.

Wednesday, July 9

9:49 a.m. Agency assist for the police department.

5:09 p.m. Agency assist for Bureau of Indian Affairs and Game and Fish.

11:24 p.m. Cooper Jedlicka, 28, was arrested for alleged driving under the influence.

Thursday, July 10

1:11 a.m. Agency assist for the police department.

1:07 p.m. Welfare check in Kirby. A trooper saw the subject get a ride shortly before the check was performed. The subject was okay.

Friday, July 11

10:21 a.m. Report of a possible sex offender registration violation. After an investigation, no violation was found.

2:12 p.m. Agency assist for emergency medical services.

4:14 p.m. Investigation into a sex offender violation.

7:21 p.m. Report of the driver of a motorcycle driving recklessly on Hwy. 20 North. The motorcycle was not located.

Monday, July 7

12:32 p.m. Customers returned a product to the store but did not receive their refund due to an issue with the receipt.

Tuesday, July 8

2:18 p.m. A portable motorcycle tent was swept up in the wind, landing on power lines and causing a power outage to several places in East Thermopolis.

3:42 p.m. Report of a computer scam asking the computer owner to obtain $3,000 in visa cards so they would turn the computer back on. No money exchanged hands.

Wednesday, July 9

9:39 a.m. An unknown individual attempted to steal the windshield out of a truck in storage. The windshield was found broken on the ground.

9:49 a.m. Civil issue between a soon to be ex husband and wife over property.

Thursday, July 10

1:11 a.m. Ramell Wanstall, 48, of Thermopolis was arrested for alleged public intoxication.

8:48 a.m. Report of a traffic accident in the 500 block of South 5th Street. A report was generated.

Friday, July 11

1:06 p.m. Report of a two vehicle accident in the 100 block of north 4th Street. A report was generated.

6:55 p.m. Report of a stolen dump stuck in the 600 block of Shoshoni Street. The vehicle was recovered in Riverton. A warrant was requested for a 34-year-old male of Riverton.

Birth

Andy Kauffman was born July 1, 2025, at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City to Jonathan and Katie Kauffman of Greybull, Wyo.

He weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long.

Grandparents are Randall and Violet Olsen of Thermopolis and Doug and Lydia Kauffman of Basin, Wyo.
