On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Monday, June 9

2:43 p.m. Report of a civil dispute.

Wednesday, June 11

4:11 p.m. Agency assist for emergency medical services.

7:30 p.m. A sheriff’s deputy investigated a traffic complaint that was deemed unfounded.

Thursday, June 12

8:10 a.m. Request for a welfare check on horses on Black Mountain Road. The owners were contacted and it was discovered that seven of the horses were being held for a rescue in Colorado and were pending pick up in two days.

Friday, June 13

11:34 a.m. Agency assist for the police department.

1:17 p.m. Deputies assisted a citizen who had questions on a no trespass order they received.

1:45 p.m. Agency assist for the police department.

7: 59 p.m. Agency assist for the police department.

Saturday, June 14

2:07 p.m. Agency assist for the police department.

2:28 p.m. Agency assist for the police department.

3:31 p.m. Report of a person who had driven off the track at a car wash and was stuck. There was no noticeable damage to the car wash or the vehicle. The vehicle was towed from the car wash.

5:10 p.m. Deputies assisted a male with a ride home for his dogs. The male got a ride from another person.

Sunday June 15

10:11 a.m. Agency assist for the Department of Family Services.

4:42 p.m. Report of a male on the premises of a bar who is probation. 8:55 p.m. Deputies proved a courtesy ride for a citizen after her vehicle broke down in the Wind River Canyon.

Monday, June 9

12:29 a.m. Structure fire in the 100 block of Fremont.

2:10 p.m. Report of an aggressive dog in the 100 block of Clark Street. A report was generated.

3:23 p.m. Police responded to a business for the report of a male photographing females within the store. The male was identified and trespassed from the business.

7:57 p.m. Report of a vehicle vs. dog traffic accident. The dog was okay.

Wednesday, June 11

1:03 p.m. Report of a stolen U-Haul trailer in the 500 block of Broadway. A report was created.

4:30 p.m. Theft of a carved jade bear in the 600 block of Shoshoni Street. The suspect was identified through camera footage. An arrest warrant was requested.

Thursday, June 12

10:43 a.m. Officers performed a traffic stop on the driver of a vehicle for speeding in the 1200 block of Broadway. When the passenger opened the glove box to retrieve the vehicle registration and insurance, officers observed a THC vape in plain view. The driver, a 72-year-old from Bountiful, Utah, was cited for alleged speeding and improper passing. The passenger, a 68-year-old male from Bountiful, Utah, was cited for alleged possession of marijuana or THC.

11:55 a.m. Officers transported a male in a metal health crisis to the hospital.

2:45 p.m. Officers responded to a REDDI report of an erratic vehicle operator coming into town from Hospital Hill. The driver of the vehicle was stopped for several motor vehicle violations. The driver, Angela Henry, 52, of Worland was arrested for alleged DUI controlled substance, under the influence of controlled substance, lane use, and cracked windshield. Henry was later discovered to have removed methamphetamine evidence from her clothing subsequent to her arrest and was charged with alleged concealing or compounding evidence of a misdemeanor and possession of controlled substances methamphetamine.

Friday, June 13

11:34 a.m. Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding and failure to maintain lane eastbound into town on Broadway. The officer observed that the vehicle had not been registered since 2021. The drive advised the officer that “the cops in Colorado usually just give a warning”. The vehicle was impounded. During a search of the motor vehicle prior to tow, the officer located THC gummies and a bottle of urine with attached instructions for passing drug test. A 51-year-old male from Colorado Springs, Colo., was cited for alleged defrauding a drug or alcohol screening test, unregistered motor vehicle, speeding, failure to maintain lane and obstructed windshield. A 50-year-old from Colorado Springs, Colo., was cited for alleged possession of controlled substance, THC gummies.

1:45 p.m. The driver of a vehicle was stopped for speeding in the 1500 block of Broadway. On approach, the officer observed a passenger frantically pushing items under a seat and moving into the back seat. The male was removed and the area frisked for officer safety. The officer observed a nicotine vape and determined the driver and passenger were under 21. The occupants were romped and admitted to controlled substance and alcohol within the vehicle. Officers competed a probable cause search and located THC product, nicotine and two 30 racks of beer. Leighton Footman, 18, of Fayetteville, Ark., was arrested for alleged possession of controlled substance schedule 1, minor in possession alcohol, minor in possession nicotine, and possession of a fake ID. Shane Knippel, 19, of Fork Washington, Ark., was arrested for alleged possession of controlled substance, minor in possession alcohol, minor in possession nicotine, careless driving, no valid driver’s license and speeding.

Saturday, June 14

2:07 p.m. Police responded to the parking lot of a motel for the report of a male walking around “buck naked” and creating a disturbance. Mark Beslanowitch, 69, of Thermopolis was arrested for alleged public intoxication, breach of peace and indecent exposure.

2:28 p.m. An off duty police officer reported a male smoking marijuana in the state park. Officers located the male in the Buffalo Pasture. Investigation determined the male was sleeping in a van and the vehicle’s license plates belonged to another car. Jayson Edward Schor, 49, a homeless transient, was arrested for alleged possesion of marijuana in plant form, possession of THC concentrate and improper display of registration.
