On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Tuesday, March 4

5:23 p.m. Agency assist for the police department

Thursday, March 6

5:49 a.m. Report of a crash with injury within the Wind River Canyon. Deputies located the truck where the driver was unharmed but the passenger had injuries due to not wearing a seatbelt. It was determined the driver of the truck was operating in 2 wheel drive on unplowed roads and lost control and spun out, crashing headfirst into the vertical rock wall.

Friday, March 7

1:03 p.m. Request for a welfare check on a semi that had been parked for several days in a parking lot. The deputies found no signs of a person inside.

Saturday, March 8

5:32 p.m. Hot Springs County Sheriff Office K9 assisted Highway Patrol on a traffic stop near mile marker 150 Highway 20 North.

9:44 p.m. Deputies assisted in retrieving lost property and returning it to the owners.

9:53 p.m. Report of a family fight. Nathan Michael Thomas, 33, was arrested for alleged domestic battery, 3rd offense (felony status) and a probation violation.

Police Department

Tuesday, March 4

10:06 a.m. Ashley Evans, 37, was arrested on a warrant for alleged bond violation and for associating with prohibited persons. Her original charges were for domestic assault.

3:26 p.m. Police conducted a traffic stop on a semi-truck towing two straw trailers. One of the Wyoming license plates on the back trailer had expired in August 2023, while the license plate on the semi-truck expired in December 2021. The driver, a 73-year-old man from Pavillion, Wyo., was cited for having an expired registration and not providing proof of insurance.

5:23 p.m. Police responded to the 500 block of Warren Street following a report of an adult male threatening his neighbors. Officers spoke with the suspect and informed him they had received a report about him yelling and using offensive language towards a neighbor, which caused her to feel scared. Officers noted that the man might be experiencing a mental health episode. Police were able to calm the suspect and, at his request, transported him to the hospital for assistance.

6:24 p.m. Police responded to the Circuit Court lobby to assist the Department of Family Services with a U.A. sample on a male. The test results were presumptive negative and will be given to the Department of Family Services.

Friday, March 7

10:19 p.m. Police conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Shoshoni Street. During the stop, officers detected the smell of controlled substances and found a small amount of marijuana in plant form and a marijuana glass pipe. The 67-year-old male driver from N. D. was cited for speeding and possessing a controlled substance in plant form.

Carolann Corbin, battery, 180 days jail, 272 days suspended, fees and fines $220, and criminal trespass, 180 days jail, fees and fines $220.

Joseph Gallagher, possession of a controlled substance, powder or crystal, three grams or less, 180 day jail, 177 days suspended, one year unsupervised probation, fees and fines $290, and littering, fees and fines $290.

Anthony Gray, interference with a peace officer, 180 days jail, 179 days suspended, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $220.

Caleb J. Kessler, driving while license cancelled, suspended, or revoked if not suspended for 31-5-229 or 31-5-233, fees and fines $450.

Matthew Fenton, stalking: misdemeanor, 180 days jail, fees and fines $220, and failure to display valid license plates, validation stickers (tabs), or permits, fees and fines $90, and no valid driver’s license, fees and fines $140, and breach of peace, 180 days jail, fees and fines $220.

Tyler R. Harvey, failure to provide proof of liability insurance, fees and fines $560.

Birth

Alden James Mills was born January 25, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Hospital at 11:11 p.m. in Billings, Mont., to Belle Belden and Dusty Mills.

He weighed 4 lbs, 4.48 oz, and was 17 inches long.

Grandparents are Brett and Isabel Belden of Thermopolis and Jim and Ginger Mills of Greybull.

Great Grandfather is Ben Belden of Thermopolis.
