On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, April 3

2:55 p.m. Report of approximately 20 head of cattle that were malnourished, including at least one calf on Lane 12.

10:10 p.m. Two hunters were reported to be missing when they failed to return from turkey hunting in the county. At approximately midnight, Hot Springs County Search and Rescue responded. The hunters did not give an idea of their exact location to family or friends before going out. Cell phone pings gave unreliable results in the Buffalo Creek area as well as an area in Park County. Multiple areas in the county were searched but there were no signs of the missing hunters.

At approximately 3 a.m., the search was called off for the night due to lighting and weather conditions. At approximately 7 a.m., after the daylight broke, Search and Rescue members returned to searching and learned friends of the hunters failed to return home after going looking. The second missing group had updated their friends and family of their location as they were searching, and the last report was in the Grass Creek area.

Search and Rescue members utilized the side by side with tracks and located both missing groups stuck in the snow on Grass Creek near Little Grass Creek.

Search and Rescue personal were assisted by Merit Energy employees from the Grass Creek field with snow removal in the area. The Central Wyoming 4x4 Association also volunteered to assist with the search.

Please remember if you are going hunting, hiking, or will be in other areas where cell phone service is limited, be sure to tell somebody where you plan to be.

4:55 p.m. A black cow was reported to be on Highway 120 near mile marker 20. The cow was located and returned to the fenced-in area. 

8:05 p.m. Deputies responded to a call for a possible hit and run that occurred earlier in the day. 

Thursday, April 6

8:19 a.m. Civil standby for a female and a male that went without issue. 

Friday, April 7

5:45 p.m. Travis William Rednour, 41, from Cody, was placed into the Detention Center on a prisoner transport. His original charges were for probation revocation.

Saturday, April 8

1:11 p.m. Deputies responded to a driving complaint of a semi-truck that was all over the roadway. The vehicle was stopped and the male driver was issued a citation for failure to maintain a single lane of travel. 

Sunday, April 9

12:12 p.m. A deputy conducted a consent search of a vehicle. No contraband was discovered. 

3:29 p.m. A deputy responded to a report of two open windows. While checking windows, an open door was located. The deputy cleared the building and called the manager to check the location and secure the door. 

8:26 p.m. Driving complaint of a semi-truck that was tailgating a car.

Police Department

Monday, April 3

2:59 p.m. Police conducted a traffic stop on Tuff S. Taylor, 18, from Shoshoni for allegedly speeding in a school zone. Taylor was also the subject of a driving complaint made by a local citizen. The citizen observed Taylor driving at a high rate of speed as he traveled southbound on US 20 North. During the traffic stop, Taylor was allegedly found to be in possession of alcohol, tobacco products, and was on felony probation. Taylor was arrested and issued multiple traffic citations, including no proof of insurance, no driver’s license, and failure to secure the license plate on the vehicle. 

4 p.m. A juvenile female informed school staff that she did not feel safe at home. Police and the Wyoming Department of Family Services made contact with the juvenile to conduct a welfare check. The father arrived shortly after. A safety plan was created and the father transported the juvenile to a local Juvenile Group Home. 

9:46 p.m. A juvenile female and her parents reported harassment from a juvenile male and an adult female. Police made contact with both harassing parties and advised them to leave the juvenile female alone. Both parties acknowledged the message and stated they would leave the juvenile female alone. 

Tuesday, April 4

8:26 a.m. A juvenile male was located in the 600 block of Arapahoe, deceased. 

8:43 a.m. Report of a juvenile male who was possibly missing. The male didn’t advise the school he was going to an appointment.

3:26 p.m. Police responded to a local residence to collect a note and article of jewelry left on the property. The property was seized for safekeeping. 

Wednesday, April 5

9 p.m. Police made contact with a male who was on court-ordered bond and probation conditions. The male was requested to participate in a drug urinalysis (UA). The male complied and his UA showed presumptive positive for marijuana, THC. The male was released and informed that the county attorney would be advised of this drug violation. 

Thursday, April 6

4:55 a.m. A security alarm was activated in the 500 block of Broadway Street. Officers arrived and determined the cook prep had improperly entered the security code upon arrival at work.

12:23 p.m. Traffic accident involving a female who backed her vehicle into a parked car in a parking lot in the 600 block of South 6th Street. A crash report was created and vehicle owners exchanged paperwork. 

4:03 p.m. A male was reported as driving recklessly and chasing another car. This was discovered to be involved with a pending drug dealing case. This information will be submitted to the county attorney for potential new charges. 

4:32 p.m. Report of a juvenile female who ran away from her father at a local business after she got upset with him. Police located the female at a nearby friend’s home. This incident was referred to the Wyoming Department of Family Services. 

7:31 p.m. Officers responded to a report of harassment involving a juvenile male suspect and an adult male victim. 

Saturday, April 8

7:23 a.m. An officer observed four dogs at large in the intersection of 6th Street and Broadway. The dogs ran back to their residence in the 700 block of Big Horn Street where the damaged fence was located. The fence was fixed and the female owner was warned of animals at large and not possessing town tags. 

7:56 a.m. A male checked in at the joint law enforcement center for his daily bond check-ins. During this check-in, the male provided a sample of his breath, which determined he was under the influence of alcohol and in violation of his stipulated bond conditions. 

Sunday, April 9

12:24 p.m. A subject came to the Law Enforcement Center to check on a stolen gun and learned it has not been recovered by the department. 

7:04 p.m. A male, from Capser, was issued a citation for an open container in the 100 block of East Park Street after law enforcement was dispatched to a local hotel to have the subject temporarily removed from the premises.

Civil Court

Tracy Tynsky, possession of a controlled substance, plant, three ounces or less, one-year unsupervised probation, fees and fines $320.
