Wrestlers up at Buffalo Friday

The Bobcat wrestlers have been busy with two duals last week, a dual with Buffalo the end of January and competing at the Greybull Invite last Saturday.

At the Buffalo dual on January 26, the Bobcats had a great showing and celebrated Senior night. The boys went 6-2 for a 39-12 win.

In front of a great crowd for the final home event of the year, Sam Skelton started the Bobcats off with a pin. Lance Axtell came out with one of his best matches of the season and pinned as well, followed by a pin by Ethan Crow and a 5-0 decision win for Jessen Basse. Brody Sorensen got another pin and the lone senior wrestler, Roedy Farrell, put on a final home performance dominating to another pin to end the dual.

On Tuesday, January 31, the Bobcats traveled to Powell for a dual with the Panthers. The Bobcats went 4-4 with Crow, Farrell, Skelton and Reese all getting wins on the night.

Then on Thursday, the team traveled to Worland for another dual. The boys went 3-6 with Worland on the varsity side with Sorensen, Farrell, and Skelton getting wins. Colter Price also got a win on the JV side.

Last Saturday, the Bobcats traveled to Greybull for a tournament. “Despite some bad losses, the Cats did manage to bring home a fourth place trophy. Will Ward had another fantastic weekend beating two wrestlers that had been ranked ahead of him all season. He got some redemption against Aiden Ruby of Wind River who had bested Ward in their previous two matches. In the championship match, #4 ranked Ward took on #2 ranked Terry of Moorcroft and soundly defeated Terry with a 15-6 decision. Roedy Farrell continued to dominate, pinning everyone in his bracket,” said coach Travis McDermott.

Coach McDermott said that Brody Sorensen also got a bit of redemption from a Ron Thon loss by defeating Hanusa of Rocky Mountain by one point and ending up second in the tournament.

Ethan Crow brought home a fourth place, Ethan Yarrington and Mason Reese ended up with fifth place finishes and Colter Price earned sixth place.

On the Girls side Alix Sorensen got a few wins to end up with a third place finish. In a two out of three bracket Kaitlin Barral bested Tera Kraushaar to bring home first and second respectively.

This week, the Cats will have a few duals in Buffalo on Friday to end the regular season. They will head to Cokeville for regionals the following week.
