It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.
Sheriff’s Office
Monday, Jan. 16
6:38 p.m. Report of a single vehicle vs. deer accident at Highway 20 N and Red Lane.
10:35 p.m. Report of items allegedly being removed from a property. The report was unfounded.
Tuesday, Jan. 17
1:12 p.m. Report of cattle out on Highway 120 and Owl Creek Road.
7:15 p.m. A subject reported their vehicle was stuck on the side of the road. The reporting party advised that they would get the vehicle out in the morning.
Wednesday, Jan. 18
8:25 p.m. A deputy and K9 unit conducted a free air sniff on a vehicle as requested by the Police Department.
Thursday, Jan. 19
6:32 p.m. Deputies responded to an address for a report of theft and trespassing. The Department of Family Services also responded to assist.
7:08 p.m. A traffic stop was performed on a vehicle for speeding. The 39-year-old female driver from Lander was issued citations for driving while suspended and failing to use child safety restraints.
9:43 p.m. A 19-year-old male inmate was charged for theft of phone time.
11:17 p.m. Report of a possible sexual assault on a minor within the past month that originated out of another county. The matter is still under investigation.
Friday, Jan. 20
11:31 a.m. Report of an email hack. Deputies advised the reporting party on how to better handle suspicious emails.
8:23 p.m. An abandoned trailer was located at mile marker 4 along Highway 120. The trailer was tagged and the possible owner was notified.
Saturday, Jan. 21
8:17 p.m. A 50-year-old male was served a notice of trespass for several properties on West Sunnyside Lane.
8:44 p.m. A deputy and K9 unit conducted a free air sniff on a vehicle as requested by the Police Department.
2:57 p.m. A deputy and K9 unit conducted a free air sniff on a vehicle as requested by Highway Patrol.
Sunday, Jan. 22
3:58 p.m. Nicholas Jay Bearing, 38, from Arapahoe, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence and open container.
2:25 p.m. Agency assist for the Police Department.
9:04 p.m. A 38-year-old male was found to be in violation of his bond conditions. Information was turned over to the County Attorney’s Office for review.
Police Department
Monday, Jan. 16
12:09 p.m. A female requested a civil standby at her residence while she retrieved clothing and belongings from her home. Her husband left the home during the civil standby.
4:17 p.m. Report of a suspicious vehicle. A female was parked on the corner of 8th and Richards waiting for her children to get off the bus.
11:57 p.m. Police conducted a traffic stop on Michelle R. McFarland, 35, from Gardena, Calif., for speeding within the 1200 block of Broadway. During this traffic stop, McFarland was arrested for an alleged DUI with a controlled substance, felony status. Police also found large amounts of a crystalline controlled substance inside her vehicle. Her passenger, Samantha M. Krisa, 30, from Hawthorne, Calif., was also arrested for alleged possession of controlled substances in liquid form.
Tuesday, Jan. 17
11:03 a.m. Agency assist for the Department of Family Service at the high school. A juvenile male was requested to provide a urinalysis.
1:21 p.m. Lucas Torrez, 40, from Worland, was arrested on Buffalo Street for alleged public intoxication. Torrez was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and meth.
Wednesday, Jan. 18
4:28 p.m. A juvenile male came to the police department with his father to advise he sold a truck to an adult male and has not received full payment for the truck as of yet. The juvenile male also advised that this same male hired him to complete a few construction jobs and still has not paid up for the completion of the job. The juvenile male was advised this was a civil matter and needed to be resolved through the court system.
Thursday, Jan. 19
3:42 p.m. Report of a property watch for a home/business while the owner is out of town.
5:10 p.m. Two students were cited for Minors in Possession of Tobacco at the elementary school.
Friday, Jan. 20
9:42 a.m. A nuisance yard was reported in the 500 block of Clark Street. It was determined the property owners were collecting trash, and parking on property that did not belong to them. The 64-year-old male property owner was contacted and advised to remove the items from the neighboring property. The owner was also cited for a nuisance yard.
3:35 p.m. A male and female were arguing while driving and the driver of the vehicle made an improper turn on the ice, and crashed into a telephone pole around the 100 block of South 4th Street. Neither occupant of the vehicle sustained injuries and refused medical attention. The vehicle was drivable, and both parties were released from the scene.
Sunday, Jan. 22
11:17 a.m. Report of an accident in the 300 block of Arapahoe involving a private snow plow that struck a parked vehicle.
3:58 p.m. Agency assist for the Sheriff’s Office.
Civil Court
Darrick Andrew Collins, theft, use or dispose, under $1,000, 30 days jail, 15 days suspended, fees and fines $320, restitution $51.
William Taylor Reed, III, Interference with a peace officer, 90 days jail, 86 days suspended, six months supervised probation, fees and fines $220.
Cristian Jurado was bound over to District Court for possession of a controlled narcotic substance, Schedule I or II, amount more than in para ci.
Boone Rogers, driving under the influence of alcohol equal to or greater than .08%, first offense within 10 years, 180 days jail, 177 days suspended, one year supervised probation, fees and fines $770.
Kelsey J. Worley, driving while license is canceled, suspended, or revoked if not suspended for 31-5-229 or 31-5-233, fees and fines $440.
