On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Monday, Nov. 7

1:17 p.m. Report of a female juvenile that had not returned home. Law Enforcement made contact with family friends who brought the juvenile home. 

3:35 p.m. A female from Cody was campaigning and entered a residence’s property. The property owner’s dog bit the female on the upper right thigh. The dog was vaccinated, and no charges were made.

9:07 p.m. Agency assist for the Thermopolis Police.

Thursday, Nov. 10

5:56 p.m. Report of a traffic accident involving a car versus deer strike on Buffalo Creek Road.

Friday, Nov. 11

4:57 p.m. Robert Eshelman, 42, from either Kirby and/or Bakersfield, Calif., was arrested on a Hot Springs County warrant.

Sunday, Nov. 13

2:59 p.m. A report of cows on the highway at mile marker 12 on Highway 120 West. 

8:26 p.m. Agency assist for the Thermopolis Police.

Monday, Nov. 7

2:15 p.m. A female reported her vehicle was damaged with scratches while parked in a local business parking lot. The case is still under investigation. 

7:31 p.m. William Donald Jamieson, 18, was arrested for alleged possession of marijuana, use of a controlled substance, turn signal violation, seat belt violation, open container, minor in possession or use of nicotine under age 21, no insurance, no headlamps.

Wednesday, Nov. 9

12:54 a.m. Richard Joseph Hamm, 54, was arrested for an alleged hold probation sanction.

12:16 p.m. A male reported that a total of $10,000 had been stolen out of his cryptocurrency account by an unknown individual. This male was advised to report this incident to his account manager and the account fraud department. A police report was prepared and forwarded to the account manager. 

4:33 p.m. Justyce Mekenzie Tanner-Oneal, 26, was arrested for an alleged hold probation sanction. 

7:38 p.m. A traffic stop occurred in the 500 block of S. 6th Street. Three juveniles in the vehicle were in possession of tobacco and alcohol while being under the legal age. The 18-year-old female driver was cited for a suspended driver’s license out of Montana and not having insurance on the vehicle. An 18-year-old male was cited for minor in possession of tobacco. 

Thursday, Nov. 10

12:44 a.m. An officer observed vehicle tire tracks on the sidewalk on the corner of 6th Street and Arapahoe. These tire tracks showed where a truck had ripped a fire hydrant completely out of the sidewalk. Due to the fresh snow, officers were able to locate the truck where the driver proceeded to drive to a friend’s house 13 blocks away. The hydrant was found wedged under the suspect vehicle. As a result, Neil Strickland, 37, was arrested for alleged felony property destruction, driving while suspended, a second offense. 

Friday, Nov. 11

11:03 a.m. An elderly male was upset about the road being closed on 3rd and Arapahoe as requested temporarily by the VFW for the Veterans Day Celebration. 

9:06 p.m. Report of a two vehicle crash involving a passenger car and a small SUV. The 68-year-old female driver of the passenger car was issued a citation for stop sign violation and failure to yield right of way. 

Sunday, Nov. 13

10:38 a.m. An intoxicated male called the detention center and threatened a deputy with bodily harm if they did not come pick him up to go to the jail and visit his wife. The call was transferred to the Police Sergeant who the male also threatened. The Sergeant informed the male they are not a taxi service. No action was taken.

12:40 p.m. Report of an obscene sign involving a female suspect and a female victim. Officers observed the obscene sign in public view and made contact with the suspect. The suspect was given a warning about a town ordinance violation. 

Civil Court

Jackylin Wurtz was bound over to District Court for possession of a controlled substance, Schedule I, II, or III, amount more than in para ci.

Brady A. Samuelson, fail to tag big or trophy game animal, fees and fines $250.
