On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Wednesday, May 4

12:20 a.m. Ayrton Taylor Henderson, 27, from Colorado, was arrested for alleged driving while under the influence of alcohol, speeding, and having an expired temporary license permit. 

9:26 a.m. Report of an upset subject in the 100 block of South D Avenue. A 33-year-old female was being disorderly. She willingly went to the hospital to be evaluated. 

6:33 p.m. An agency assist involving a disorderly male subject at Hot Springs Health. No assistance was needed upon arrival. 

Thursday, May 5

12:48 p.m. Report of a civil problem involving a deputy who responded to the 200 block of East Arapahoe for a standby request by Rocky Mountain Power. Rocky Mountain Power stated that the owner had let two aggressive dogs out the day before. The owner was asked to place the dogs inside while Rocky Mountain Power turned the electricity on. Standby went without issue. 

1:26 p.m. Report of harassment involving an 18-year-old female who was harassing a 17-year-old male. The female subject reportedly made threats. A deputy will locate the female to speak with her.

1:41 p.m. A deputy responded to mile marker 134 on Highway 20 South for a disabled vehicle that had lost a tire. The truck sustained damage to the rotor, wheel stud and axle and was towed by request from the owner. 

5:44 p.m. Donald Floyd Detimore, 69, from Lander, was placed in the detention center on a hold for another agency. 

9:51 p.m. Report of property damage involving a deputy who assisted Game and Fish and BLM to make contact with a 31-year-old male who got his truck stuck in Little Sand Draw. The subject was believed to be poaching. The subject’s girlfriend said he was upset about the price of ground beef at the grocery store. The subject also had multiple firearms. 

Friday, May 6

11:09 a.m. Report of vandalism involving one or more people who entered the bentonite mine off of Missouri Flat Road and began tampering with equipment. The damage was estimated to be about $30,000. 

9:53 p.m. Report of suspicious activity involving a vehicle that had been parked in the area for several hours. The driver advised he had been working in the area and had taken a nap.

Saturday, May 7

6:21 p.m. Report of a juvenile problem involving two juvenile females lying on the road in the Hot Springs State Park and not moving for traffic. Contact was made with the females and they were told to stay in the grass.

7:06 p.m. Archie Paul Butler, 58, was arrested for alleged driving while under the influence of alcohol, duty upon colliding with an unattended vehicle or property, hit and run, two counts, and not having a valid driver’s license. 

11:27 p.m. Report of a motorist assist involving a stranded motorist in the Wind River Canyon. A courtesy ride was given to a 31-year-old adult male into Thermopolis. 

Police Department

Monday, May 2

11:35 a.m. Report of damaged property involving a 65-year-old male who reported his fence in the 100 block of Clark Street was damaged. The property damage was over a month old.

9:02 p.m. Police responded to a local hotel where a 27-year-old male was kicked out of his room by other occupants. The male subject advised that there was drug activity within the room. Austin Ray Carson, 27, of Casper, and Shawn Michael Patrick, 39, of Newcastle were both arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance, meth. Also, Christopher John White, 34, of Gillette, was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance, both meth, and marijuana. 

Wednesday, May 4

10:01 a.m. Report of an accident involving a 25-year-old female in a county vehicle leaving the parking lot in the 100 block of East Arapahoe. She entered into the roadway and hit a truck driven by a 70-year-old male. No injuries were reported. The mans truck was towed. 

3:46 p.m. Report of a utility problem involving Wyoming Gas who shut off the gas supply to a residence in the 1500 block of Fremont. When returning to check the lock, Wyoming gas found the lock cut off and gas had been used. An officer stood by until it was completely shut off and a lock placed on the meter again. Wyoming Gas spoke to the owners and told them to contact Wyoming Gas for further instructions on how to remedy the problem. 

6:33 p.m. Report of disorderly conduct involving a 39-year-old male not following orders of hospital staff at the emergency room was escorted back to his room without incident.

11:04 p.m. A 22-year-old male driver was stopped and cited for speeding. The driver’s passenger, a 37-year-old male, was cited for possession of marijuana. Both subjects are from Pennsylvania. 

Thursday, May 5

7:34 p.m. Report of a traffic offense involving a 9-year-old male riding an electric “4-wheeler” down 14th Street onto Chevy Chase Ave. not signaling, not stopping for stop signs, and in the middle of the road with moderate traffic. An officer performed a traffic stop on the 9-year-old male and followed him back to his home, where the officer spoke to a legal guardian about road safety. 

11:35 p.m. Report of harassment involving hospital staff who contacted law enforcement stating that there was a 17-year-old male outside who was talking to himself and scaring hospital patients.

Law enforcement arrived on the scene and after a while contacted the man. The individual was warned about frightening hospital patients and was cited for MIP tobacco. 

Friday, May 6

1:22 a.m. Report of a parking problem involving a large box truck parked in a business parking lot and the occupants were sleeping. An officer spoke with the gentlemen inside and told them to move on. 

8:49 a.m. A 57-year-old male reported suspected stolen property. No citations were issued at this time. 

3:37 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a 45-year-old male requesting legal assistance. The subject was directed to a lawyer for proper help. 

Saturday, May 7

11:32 a.m. Report of threats involving a 30-year-old female who was threatened with text messages from a 52-year-old male customer.   

6:13 p.m. Report of a juvenile problem involving a 12-year-old acting out and being aggressive. The parents brought her to the Law Enforcement Center for help. An officer spoke with the girl.

Civil Court

Clayton L. Douglas was bound over to district court on charges of false imprisonment, reckless endangering, domestic assault, first offense, criminal entry, property destruction: $1,000 or more, theft: deprive of $1,000 or more or firearm/livestock regardless of value and felonious restraint.
