On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Monday, Dec. 13

4:14 p.m. Report of grass fire north of town. The deputy arrived and was able to stamp it out with his feet. The deputy spoke with the property owner and informed them to call dispatch and inform law enforcement of operating a controlled burn prior to starting it. 

Friday, Dec. 17

3:52 p.m. Report of a missing person: Leland Morton, 72. He was last seen on Monday December 13 driving a dark grey 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 extended cab which has a one piece front bumper/grill guard which is painted the same color as the truck paint. Leland has a hunched over posture with grey hair and brown eyes. He has a scar on right index finger, missing end finger. Has dentures. He is a Vietnam Veteran. Leland frequently drives between Thermopolis and Cottonwood road for work. If you have any information please call the Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office at (307)864-2622.

6:29 p.m. Report of a welfare check at the request of the Department of Family Services involving a 51-year-old male. The deputy went to the subject’s home and no one was there.

Thursday, Nov. 18

Time Unknown: Joseph Michael Leroy Grant, 32, of Casper, was arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance, powder or crystal, conspiracy to commit a felony and property destruction, under $1,000.  

Monday, Dec. 13

8:11 a.m. Report of an accident in the 600 block of Amoretti Street. A 51-year-old female pulled her vehicle out into traffic westbound and was struck from behind by a 35-year-old female driver. The 51-year-old female was cited for driving without insurance.

10:17 a.m. Report of an agency assist where an officer helped Highway Patrol with a suspicious briefcase at mile marker 20 on Highway 120. The briefcase was leaning against a fence post. The bomb squad from Casper was called in to take care of the object which was found inert. 

10:15 p.m. Matthew M. Walsh, 32, of Oregon, was arrested for alleged driving while under the influence of alcohol, interference with a peace officer, open container, no insurance, and failing to abide by posted signs. 

Tuesday, Dec. 14

3:17 p.m. Report of a trespass notice served on a 60-year-old male to stay away from a business. 

Wednesday, Dec. 15

8:03 p.m. Report of stalking involving some school employees who received emails from an unknown subject. There were no threats. The school’s IT department is working to block the sender.

Thursday, Dec. 16

2:59 a.m. Whitley Paige Walker, 31, of Worland, was arrested for alleged driving while under the influence of alcohol with a child passenger, license plate lamp not working, open container and being in Hot Springs State Park after hours. 

Friday, Dec. 17

10:37 p.m. Jeffry A. Clark, 19, and Remington C. Ferree, 19, were arrested for allegedly being under 21 years old and consuming alcohol. Another 19-year-old male was cited for open container 

Saturday, Dec. 18

3:55 a.m. Report of information involving a 23-year-old female who showed up at her father’s home. The subject was kicked out of her significant other’s home, who was also allegedly intoxicated. The daughter spent the night with her parents. 

Sunday, Dec. 19

12:32 a.m. Jocelyn Rae White, 18, was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance, meth and tobacco, and for failure to use a turn signal. 

8:52 a.m. Report of a runaway juvenile involving a 17-year-old female and a 13-year-old male, who drove to Casper and returned home. The 17-year-old female was cited for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, failure to make a report, restricted license, duty to stop for an accident involving damage to property or a vehicle. 

7:58 p.m. Report of harassment involving a 24-year-old female who was receiving calls from a former significant other’s girlfriend. The police determined there was no issue. 

11:01 p.m. Autumn Smith, 25, was arrested for alleged public intoxication.
