Picnic area, shed added to community garden

On September 13, a dedication was held for two new structures at the Community Garden. The garden is located at the northwest corner of the intersection of East Arapahoe and Buffalo Street in East Thermopolis, near the hospital and Red Rock Family Clinic.

The two structures are a shed and a picnic area. About 25 people participated in the dedication.

According to Kelly Strampe, member of the Red Dirt Master Gardeners, many community members purchased a bed to garden in for the whole summer. Community members are invited to participate and can have more than one plot. Strampe noted that some people don't have their own land to garden and this gives them the opportunity.

During the summer of 2021, there were 19 people gardening at the Community Garden with 49 beds in use. There were other beds that could be used.

Some sections of the community garden were set aside for the Governor's Grow a Little More program and for the Hunger Initiative. As they grew mature produce, gardeners would drop off food at Lazy Fox for Grow a Little More.
