On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, Sept. 6

2:14 p.m. Report of suspicious activity involving a subject driving golf balls at the golf range and who had not paid. The subject was allegedly picking up golf balls to take them home. A deputy made contact with the subject and he agreed to remedy the situation. 

Tuesday, Sept. 7

9:02 a.m. Report of an agency assist involving a deputy working with the Department of Family Services.

3:25 p.m. Report of someone failing to register as a sex offender. The matter is under investigation.

10:43 p.m. Report of a sexual assault involving a 43-year-old male, a 41-year-old male and a 35-year-old female victim. The matter is under investigation. 

Wednesday, Sept. 8

11:34 a.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a subject who requested information on how to go through the eviction process. 

12:01 p.m. Report of a suspicious vehicle parked on a person’s private property. The deputy investigated and found the vehicle belongs to a family member of the property owner. Everything was fine.

6:27 p.m. Report of a welfare check involving a call from a business in Riverton that couldn’t contact their client. The deputy made contact with the client and found them to be OK. The client will contact the business.

6:51 p.m. Ronald F Shoemaker, 41, was arrested for alleged probation revocation. 

Friday, Sept. 10

6:01 p.m. Report of an emergency involving a 911 hang-up call. The deputy tried to locate the caller. The caller called dispatch and made contact. Everything was fine.

Saturday, Sept. 11

6:28 p.m. Report of disorderly behavior involving a female neighbor in the area yelling loudly with obscene language. Upon investigation, a deputy determined the cause of distress was a deceased family member. 

7:28 p.m. Report of a possible drunk driver in the Kirby area. The deputy was unable to locate the vehicle. 

Sunday, Sept. 12

10:24 a.m. Report of property damage involving someone driving a vehicle through a fence line and failing to report the accident. The deputy responded and found tire tracks, no left parts and was unable to locate the vehicle. It is suspected that the driver may have swerved to avoid hitting an animal, as the area was in an open range.

12:11 p.m. Report of a welfare check involving someone hearing loud cursing at a motel and a possible child crying. The deputy arrived and located the room. The subject was a parent expressing verbal feelings because they had to change a baby’s diaper early in the morning. 

Police Department

Monday, Sept. 6

2:57 a.m. Report of suspicious activity involving possible drugs in a neighborhood. The police will be watching the area.

10:11 a.m. Report of lost keys. They have not been turned in yet.

11:10 a.m. Report of a medical call. The subject refused transport to the hospital.

1:23 p.m. Report of suspicious activity involving two subjects drinking beer in front of a local business. They were told to get rid of the beer and move along. They did. 

3:34 p.m. Report of an accident in a parking lot. A vehicle backed into another vehicle. The officer contacted both subjects. There were no citations.

Tuesday, Sept. 7

9:23 a.m. Report of harassment involving a couple of subjects yelling and screaming foul language at each other. No further action was taken, as there was nothing criminal. 

3:44 p.m. Report of a citizen dispute between a separated couple. The female subject tried to deliver some property to the male subject. She allegedly had a screwdriver in case she needed to use it. No assault occurred. 

6:51 p.m. Report of found property involving a wallet with no ID in it. 

7:36 p.m. A 53-year-old male from Arizona was cited for public intoxication. He was released to a responsible party.

8:54 p.m. Report of a noise complaint at an apartment complex. The officer arrived and did not hear any disturbance. The officer made contact with the resident. Someone dropped an item on the floor, which made a loud noise. The officer told the parties involved to keep the noise down. 

Wednesday, Sept. 8

2:44 p.m. Report of an escort for a funeral procession.

5:54 p.m. Report of a lost running pack. It has not been turned in.

6:12 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a subject who thought they heard knocking on a door from someone who is not supposed to be there. The officer made contact with the other party. They denied being on the property.

7:58 p.m. A repossession company notified dispatch of their activities.

Thursday, Sept. 9

12:37 p.m. Report of a hit and run involving a power pole box hit by a vehicle in a parking lot. The license plate is unreadable by the video camera. The police doubt it was someone local. There are no suspects.

3:26 p.m. Report of an agency assist where an officer observed a urinalysis for the Department of Family Services.

Friday, Sept. 10

11:36 a.m. Report of a 911 hang-up. The officer went to the location of the call and was unable to locate the caller. 

4:50 p.m. Report of an agency assist involving a request from Lander Police to contact someone who had a vehicle in their jurisdiction. The officer located the owner and they will make contact with Lander Police.

11:42 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving an officer who gave a disabled female subject a courtesy ride to her residence.

Saturday, Sept. 11

6:52 p.m. Ian W Caldon, 44, of Cheyenne, was arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence of alcohol and speeding.

Sunday, Sept. 12

7:22 a.m. Report of suspicious activity involving a subject who felt their vehicle had been vandalized. The officer investigated and determined the vandalism was from a natural occurrence. It was bird poop according to the officer.

8:39 a.m. Report of an agency assist involving an officer observing a urinalysis for Probation and Parole. 

11:40 a.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a domestic matter. It is an ongoing investigation.

Circuit Court

Daniel Norris Robinson, driving while license is suspended, second plus offense, seven days jail, seven days suspense, fees and fines $70.

Paul A. Wurtz, driving while license canceled, suspended, or revoked if not suspended for 31-5-229 or 31-5-233, fees and fines $70.

Shylaray Crider, possession of a controlled substance, plant, three ounces or less, fees and fines $420.

Aryan S. Brossman, bound over to District Court for aggravated assault and battery, threaten with a drawn deadly weapon and breach of peace.

Thomas L. McCarty-Severns, transport with intent to furnish to under 21 years old operative vehicle, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $370.

Susan Pyle, theft: deprive, under $1,000, 30 days jail, 27 days suspended, six months unsupervised probation, fees and fines $220.

Peter Case, driving while license canceled, suspended, or revoked if not suspended 31-5-229 or 31-5-233, fees and fines $440.

Kalven McPherson, driving while license suspended, second plus offense, seven days jail, fees and fines $270 and failed to provide proof of liability insurance, fees and fines $570.

Lisa Williams, animal attack a person, second offense, fees and fines $170.
