On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, June 14

3:57 p.m. Report of a suspicious subject at the tables near Wolf Creek in the Wind River Canyon. A 23-year-old male was seen with three 10 inch machete knives and was standing up, walking in circles and talking to himself. There were no threats made. The deputy made contact and the subject admitted he talked to himself. He recently moved to Thermopolis from Washington State. 

Wednesday, June 16

1:32 p.m. Report of disorderly behavior involving an intoxicated 84-year-old male was transported from a business to the hospital. He was reportedly out of control and abusive. The deputy waited for him to calm down. There were no citations. 

4:15 p.m. Kenneth Earl Pulver, 48, was arrested for alleged domestic battery. Both husband and wife were allegedly highly intoxicated during the altercation.

11:17 p.m. Report of an agency assist where two deputies helped a State Park Ranger make contact with eight juveniles at the Boysen Reservoir. All juveniles were from Thermopolis and many were intoxicated. Their parents were contacted and citations were given by the State Park Ranger.

Thursday, June 17

9:11 a.m. Report of an agency assist involving a home check with the Department of Family Services. The deputy made contact and found the home was not suitable for a juvenile to live there. The subject was told to clean the house and they complied. 

9:57 a.m. Report of a 911 hang up call at mile marker 22 on Highway 120. The deputy made contact and found the subject’s smart watch was making errors and called 911 by accident.

3:37 p.m. Report of a juvenile problem involving a 15-year-old female who was originally at Boysen Reservoir whose parents were going to send her to the group home. The subject was upset and walked away. The deputy made contact and returned her to her parents. She was then sent to the group home. 

Friday, June 18

5:04 p.m. Report of a medical call where a male subject was found face down on the ground. The deputy arrived and performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. The subject was transported to the hospital. The outcome is not known.

Saturday, June 19

12:45 a.m. Report of an inmate problem who was acting unruly and decided to smash a cup into pieces. The deputy entered the cell and recovered the broken pieces. The inmate was locked down.

12:06 p.m. Report of a citizen assist where an 81-year-old male called in because his air conditioner wasn’t working and wanted to come to town to cool off. When the deputy arrived, the a/c was working and the subject didn’t need transport.

4:30 p.m. Report of a family fight involving a verbal argument originally that may be turned into an assault. The matter is still under investigation.

5:42 p.m. Report of a Search and Rescue call in the Wind River Canyon. At mile marker 123 on Highway 20 South, they found a kayak pinned in between some rocks. A search for victims was made throughout the canyon to the hot springs terraces. No one was found. However, 50 yards down river from the pinned kayak a second kayak was found. 

Sunday, June 20

6:45 p.m. Report of theft where 10 railroad ties were stolen from a local business south of town.

9:30 p.m. Report of theft where scrap copper was taken from a business south of town. The business owner asked for an extra patrol.

10:39 p.m. A deputy assisted a patient injured with a broken ankle and helped emergency medical services in the transport of the subject to the hospital.

Monday, June 14

2:48 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a 27-year-old female from Powell who came to the Law Enforcement Center who felt someone from Casper was following her. The matter was unfounded.

Tuesday, June 15

4:27 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a dispute between a boyfriend and ex-girlfriend, both age 53, over some property left behind from one year ago. The male subject said he didn’t have the property and threw away the items.

10:32 p.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a dispute between a couple who might have been intoxicated. The officer arrived and they were not intoxicated and everything was OK.

Wednesday, June 16

2:08 a.m. Report of a curfew violation involving a 13-year-old male, an 11-year-old female and a 16-year-old female. Their parents were called and picked them up. There were no citations issued.

8:55 a.m. Report of disorderly behavior that is a civil issue involving a right of way where a neighbor was building a fence and blocking another property owner.

9:23 a.m. Report of a fire alarm at Los Cabos where their fire suppression system went off. The fire department was called and the business cleaned up. There was no damage.

1:16 p.m. Report of an emergency involving a physical altercation between a 54-year-old female and a 45-year-old female. They were going to be in business together with an art gallery, but then ended their relationship. There were no citations or arrests.

Thursday, June 17

2:11 a.m. Report of drugs at the Hot Springs State Park involving a 18-year-old male, a 21-year-old female and a 20-year-old man who was cited for possession of a controlled substance, marijuana. 

12:39 p.m. Report of a possible drunk driver on Highway 20 South heading north into town. The officer did a 30 minute search and made contact with a 75-year-old female driver who was tired and grieving. There were no citations.

7:44 p.m. Report of fraud involving a phone scam where a perpetrator targeted a 32-year-old male disabled veteran who said he must pay $1,200 or else his identity would become stolen. The victim used Google Play cards and gave the perpetrator its numbers and lost the money.

11:07 p.m. Report of a suspicious subject sleeping in a vehicle in the parking lot of Maverik. He was told to move along.

11:52 p.m. Nolberto Alejandro Hiler-Mendez, 29, from an unknown country but with a Green Card, was arrested for allegedly driving while license was suspended and carrying an illegal firearm in the vehicle. The matter was transferred to the ATF.

Friday, June 18

8:50 a.m. Report of a citizen dispute involving a right of way where a property owner couldn’t leave because their path was blocked. When the officer arrived, the block was removed. There were no citations.

11:17 a.m. Report of a 59-year-old male who was found deceased. There was no foul play and he died of natural causes. 

12:29 p.m. Report of a welfare check involving an elderly female who was not seen in a couple days. She was found fine.

8:47 p.m. A’leeta Geannette Patterson, 46, of Oklahoma was arrested for alleged simple assault on a 53-year-old male from Billings, Mont. 

11:43 p.m. Report of a suspicious 30-year-old male subject sleeping in a vehicle in the parking lot of Maverik. He was told to move along.

11:59 p.m. Diego Iziah Corriveau, 20, was arrested for alleged minor in possession of alcohol. A 15-year-old male was cited for minor in possession of alcohol. They were both under the influence. A 22-year-old male was cited for selling or furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 years old.

Saturday, June 19

7:53 a.m. Report of theft at the 1000 block of Amoretti where a 19-year-old female’s car was burglarized and items were taken without permission.

4:50 p.m. Report of an accident at the 400 block of Amoretti where a vehicle was stopped at the railroad tracks and backed up into another vehicle. There was damage. The officer requested estimates from both vehicles and there were no citations. 

5:10 p.m. Report of an accident at the car rally in the Hot Springs State Park where the driver of a Cadillac hit a Tricycle Bike with custom paint. There was damage and the officer requested an estimate on repairs. There were no citations. 

Sunday, June 20

8:15 a.m. Alexander Duren, 50, of Buffalo, Wyo. was arrested for alleged public intoxication at the boat dock in Hot Springs State Park. 

4:37 p.m. Report of a court violation where a 49-year-old female received a letter from an ex which was in violation of a restraining order. The matter was sent to the County Attorney for review.

Circuit Court

Michaela Goesahead, driving without compulsory auto insurance, first offense, fees and fines $560.

Keith O. Bapst, use of a controlled substance, schedule I, II or III, 30 days jail, 28 days suspended, six months supervised probation, fees and fines $270.

Kenneth E. Pulver, domestic battery, first offense, 90 days jail, 88 days suspended, one year supervised probation, fees and fines $520.
