On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Sheriff’s Office

Monday, January 11

11:30 a.m. Report of a citizen assist involving a 15-year-old juvenile male who was shooting a handgun into the river, trying to get geese off the river and go somewhere else. The deputy made contact with the subject and gave a warning for reckless behavior. 

Tuesday, January 12

10:15 a.m. Report of a subject in East Thermopolis who was concerned that people are trying to vandalize her property and take property from her. The deputy investigated and determined that the matter was unfounded. 

11:16 a.m. Report of extra patrol around a rental property where the landlord was concerned that an evicted tenant may come back onto the property.

6:22 p.m. Report of a male who was called in for walking on the street intoxicated. The deputy determined he had been drinking, but not too intoxicated to be walking on the street.

Thursday, January 14

8:23 a.m. An agency assist where a deputy assisted the police department in a urinalysis on a 59-year-old male.

9:04 a.m. A subject in East Thermopolis complained people are trying to poison her trees. The deputy investigated and determined that the matter was unfounded. 

 4:42 p.m. Report of an agency assist where a deputy assisted the Department of Family Services in a urinalysis on a subject.

5:25 p.m. Report of a civil standby out on Owl Creek for a person who had previously been evicted to collect their property. 

Saturday, January 16

12:05 p.m. Report of a 911 hand up in the area of 200 block of East Arapahoe. The deputy was unable to locate the caller who had a track phone.

Monday, January 11

7:12 a.m. Report of a truck vs deer accident.

10:22 a.m. Report of a 911 hang up. The subscriber was out of Texas. The officer was unable to locate them.

11:48 a.m. Report of a vehicle that was parked wrong on the street. It was moved later.

1:48 p.m. Report of a lost wallet. It has not been found.

4:51 p.m. Report of a found wallet that was sent to Northern Arapaho Tribe officials to locate the owner there.

Tuesday, January 12

7:16 a.m. A subject concerned about an elderly man who did not want medical services and refused to go to the hospital. 

8:25 a.m. Report of an extra patrol around a residence.

1:52 p.m. Report of a citizen assist where a subject wanted his backpack searched by law enforcement to prove nothing was illegal in it.

5:57 p.m. Rebecca Nelson, 47, was arrested for alleged public intoxication, breach of peace, and interference with a peace officer. 

The Police Department is aware of a photo circulating on social media regarding the incident. They ask that the public seek to gain all the information before making assumptions. 

8:59 p.m. Report of a noise complaint involving a female subject screaming outside of the Senior Apartments. The officer asked her to stop and she did.

Wednesday, January 13

2:31 p.m. Report of an agency assist where the Department of Family Services ask if they received a report on a scam. The police did not have the info.

4:29 p.m. Report of a urine test where a 59-year-old male was cited for use of a controlled substance, meth.

Thursday, January 14

4:26 a.m. Michael Dee Wilkinson, 40, was arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence.

3:15 p.m. Report of a disorderly employee who was terminated and causing problems.

6:46 p.m. Report of a found phone, it was returned to the owner.

Friday, January 15

Unknown time: John Darrell Laster, 33, of Shoshoni was put into the detention center on a warrant arrest for probation revocation. He was originally arrested in Fremont County on October 30, 2020.

1:07 p.m. Report of disorderly conduct involving a former employee continuing to cause disruption. 

2:59 p.m. Report of a civil standby where a former employee retrieved belongings peacefully.

5:05 p.m. Report of a child in need of services involving a six-year-old boy and a three-year-old boy who were in the street running into traffic. The parents were contacted and there were no citations. 

9:29 p.m. Blake Lee Slagle, 23, of Casper, was cited for alleged speeding and arrested for alleged driving while under the influence of alcohol

10:20 p.m. Charles Granger, 59, was arrested for alleged pending charges of felony possession of meth.

Saturday, January 16

7:01 a.m.  Michael Dee Wilkinson, 40, arrested for alleged charges of possession of a controlled substance, meth and marijuana and for intent to deliver.

11:50 a.m. Report of a possible drunk driver. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

5:23 p.m. Report of an agency assist where there was a request for security at the landing zone for life light. They were busy with another call.

5:34 p.m. Report of a personal injury accident involving a truck versus a 59-year-old male pedestrian in the street near Mack’s Market. The matter is still under investigation.

6:23 p.m. Report of theft of items from a local business by an unidentified female..

8:57 p.m. An agency assist where a patient was life-flighted to another hospital.

9:30 p.m. An officer assisted medical services in the transport of a patient to the hospital.

10:07 p.m. Report of a suspicious loud boom similar to a large caliber gun, it was possible fireworks. The officer was unable to locate the source.

Sunday, January 17

6:52 a.m. Report of a business alarm. The officer responded and everything was fine.

8:30 a.m. Report of damage to a vehicle. The matter is still under investigation.

10:29 a.m. Report of someone who found some earbuds. The property is yet to be claimed.

11:54 a.m. Report of suspicious damage to some items outside a house. The owner wanted to report it and leave it at that.

12:23 p.m. Report of someone cleaning a backyard and burning leaves. They did not report it ahead of time. They have been advised on how to report it properly.

12:31 p.m. Report of a deceased 78-year-old male. There was no sign of foul play.

2:29 p.m. Report of fraud where a female subject thought she bought a puppy over the internet and sent money. The seller attempted to get more money out of her. The result was no puppy. The police department says to be aware to do exchanges in person and caution people for sending money for items.
