Lady Cats working hard

The Lady Cats basketball team had a challenging week facing off against Worland, Rawlins and Glenrock with a 0-3 finish.

Tuesday the ladies fell to the Lady Warriors, 60-50, but they battled tough after trailing in the first quarter, 18-4. They went into the half trailing by just five points, 29-24.

The second half was a battle as the Lady Cats fell behind in the third by 15 points, only to cut that lead to four, late in the fourth quarter.

"The girls battled hard all night and came up short in the end," coach Matt McPhie said, "but they showed a lot of grit in the process."

Julie Johnson had an outstanding night against our historic rivals, scoring 24 points for the Lady Cats. Elisa Weber added nine points and Layne Myers and Mariah Brooks added six points each.

Brooks had another solid outing on the boards, too, adding 10 rebounds to her stats while Johnson added another five in this category.

On Friday, they took on the experienced Rawlins Lady Outlaws, falling by a score of 52-28.

"Rawlins was dominant in this game and the inexperience of our team was exposed," McPhie said. "We had some good stretches of competition, but the Rawlins team proved to be too much in this contest."

Johnson led the way against Rawlins scoring seven points. Webber added six and Myers, Brooks and Sadie Burr each chipped in with five points.

Brooks and Weber each had four rebounds and Kamry Bowman dished out three assists.

Saturday, the girls fell to the Glenrock Lady Herders, 34-30. It was a defensive battle and the girls struggled to make baskets the entire game.

The Lady Cats battle tough, but fell flat the final quarter.

Burr led the way in scoring with 12 points and Weber added another nine.

Brooks played excellent basketball for half of the game before suffering an injury. She had 12 rebounds on the night.

Bowman and Johnson added seven and six rebounds respectively and they both added three steals each to their records. Bowman dished out five assists to lead the team.

"The girls head into break with lots of work to do," McPhie said, "but they are working hard and we believe this team will make some big strides in becoming a team that can compete on any given night."
