Three running for two seats on town council

Three people are on the primary ballot running for two seats on the Thermopolis Town Council.

Bill Malloy is running for reelection as a Town Council member. He is a Wyoming native who has been in Thermopolis for 55 years. He was born and raised in Laramie and graduated from the University of Wyoming. He taught music in Thermopolis for 42 years and was a substitute teacher for 13 years. He was the mayor for eight years.

Malloy said, “We are going to go through some tough times in the near future. One of the big issues is the landfill, this solid waste. Our budgets have already been cut, and they’re going to be cut more because of the time we’re going through. I think we need people in there that know a lot about finances.”

Malloy said the reason he is running this year is “I really feel that we need to have experience, leadership, continuity in our government more than ever in this particular time. I think I can give that.”

Bradyn Harvey is running for Thermopolis Town Council. He is 28 years old and was born and raised in Thermopolis. He moved away to go to college. He said he and his wife Shailee chose after college to raise their children here in town.

Harvey said, “We are dedicated to the town of Thermopolis. I’m a hard-working individual, having worked in the oil fields for 10 years. I take pride in my work in the oil field. I can serve as a Council member because I am honest, I have great integrity, I support our local law enforcement and am wholehearted against big government. I love the town of Thermopolis and I want what is best for it in every way.”

Harvey said that his main concern for the town is its financial future. He said that “due to our recent economic collapse brought on by the outbreak of the coronavirus, fiscal responsibility must be of our utmost importance.”

Dusty Lewis is running for reelection as a Town Council member. Lewis has seven years of management experience in a fairly large company and another three years managing his own company. He has been a council member for about seven years. He has lived in Thermopolis since 2005.

Lewis said he is “A big believer in Thermopolis and I think that we as a town we have a lot that we offer. We have a lot more we can offer both to the residents and visitors. I want to continue to see that the town grows rather than diminish. We want Thermopolis to be a great place to live, to visit and enjoy.”

Lewis added, “I want the money the town brings in to be spent on things the town needs to address, and there’s basic needs that obviously had to be done one way or another. And they come at a cost. The money we collect should be spent responsibly and on the things the town needs the most.”
