On the Record policy

It is the Thermopolis Independent Record’s policy that all people arrested or cited under the “Accidents,” “Sheriff’s office” or “Police department” in the On the Record section are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. We print the names of all people upon their initial arrest.

Tuesday, July 7

11 a.m. Dominic Mason Magelky, 19, was arrested on a warrant out of Fremont County.

Wednesday, July 8

2:43 p.m. Report of a citizen dispute between a landlord and tenant who did not pay rent. They were advised that this was a civil issue. 

7:29 p.m. Report of an agency assist where Park County Highway Patrol stopped pursuing a runaway juvenile in a high-speed chase from Cody to Thermopolis. The juvenile’s father was also pursuing in another vehicle. The juvenile’s vehicle ran out of gas. The deputy arrived and the father took the child home.

Thursday, July 9

6:12 a.m. Complaint of a yellow plane flying low spraying weeds. The plane upset a man and his horses.

1:02 p.m. Report of a sex offender failing to register location. Ryan Garrett Shaffer, 37, has a pending warrant as his whereabouts are unknown. He was last registered at 194 Novakovich Lane.

3:51 p.m. Allen Scott Chamberlin, 33, of Cody was arrested in Park County for an alleged probation revocation warrant out of Hot Springs County. He was transferred to HSC jail.

8:20 p.m. Michael J. Wells, 28, was arrested on a warrant. 

Friday, July 10

10:10 a.m. An agency assist where a deputy worked with the Department of Family Services as a witness to a urinalysis. 

2:45 p.m. Report of potential child abuse. The matter is under investigation.

3:56 p.m. An accident occurred when the driver of a truck backed into another vehicle. The driver was given a citation.

5:50 p.m. Consent search of a vehicle at mile marker 8 on Highway 120 West. The deputy did not find anything.

Saturday, July 11

3:06 p.m. A medical issue was reported at the detention center. A subject was complaining of pain and an asthma attack. The subject was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Monday, July 6

4:13 p.m. Christian Rowdy Peek, 23, was arrested for alleged possession of a controlled substance and alleged under the influence of a controlled substance.

4:24 p.m. An officer provided a civil stand by for a couple who parted ways while one got their belongings.

Tuesday, July 7

6:29 a.m. Report of an abandoned vehicle in a parking lot. It was later moved.

7:30 a.m. Jacquelyn Marie Tuttle, 37, was arrested on a warrant.

8:25 a.m. Richard Joseph Hamm, 52, was arrested after failing a urinalysis test for the alleged use of a controlled substance.

1:58 p.m. A stop sign was knocked over. There are no suspects.

3:02 p.m. Citizen assist where a subject desperately needed to use a restroom. He was directed to a proper location.

8:08 p.m. Extra patrol provided for a property while the owner was out of town.

10:18 p.m. Robert Lee Richter, 40, was arrested on a warrant.

11:11 p.m. Report of suspicious activity in an unoccupied residence where someone saw a subject inside with a flashlight. Officer found out the subject was the owner of the property and there was no power.

Wednesday, July 8

1:02 a.m. An abandoned vehicle was tagged and then removed by the owner.

2:38 a.m. Claudia Duran Washington, 45, of Riverton, was arrested for alleged driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving while under suspension and for possession of a controlled substance, marijuana.

2:38 a.m. Ronald Joseph Blackburn, 50, of Riverton, was arrested on a warrant and for alleged domestic battery. Fremont County chose not to extradite him on the warrant.

3:35 p.m. A repossession company contacted the department to notify them they were taking a vehicle.

Thursday, July 9

1:15 a.m. Report of a subject sleeping in a parking lot. The subject was moved along.

7:07 a.m. Report of vandalism is under investigation.

9:48 a.m. A citizen assist turned out to be a civil issue. The officer instructed them to speak with an attorney.

4:02 p.m. An agency assist where an officer worked with the Department of Family Services in a vehicle search. Nothing illegal was found.

Friday, July 10

1:01 p.m. A 67-year-old male from Colorado was cited for duty to an unattended vehicle, driving without insurance, open container, driving while under suspension and driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was not arrested because he needed immediate medical attention due to a wreck where he hit several other vehicles near the hospital and Hot Springs State Park. There were no other subjects injured.

8:55 pm. A 22-year-old male from New Jersey was cited for possession of marijuana.

10:51 p.m. Report of a minor accident in a private parking lot. There were no citations. 

Saturday, July 11

12:56 a.m. William Paul Miles, 39, of Basin, was arrested for alleged possession of marijuana.

2:43 a.m. A urinalysis was performed and it came back negative.

4:03 a.m. Report of two suspicious vehicles with subjects sleeping in them. They were told to move along. The two vehicles were unrelated to each other.

9 a.m. An American flag was stolen from someone’s yard.

1:23 p.m. Report of people trespassing, walking on the terraces and not on the designated pathway. The matter was turned over to Hot Springs State Park authorities.

Sunday, July 12

12:11 a.m. A noise complaint involving juveniles yelling, firing a pellet gun and setting off fireworks. The juveniles were contacted and told to stop.

1:46 a.m. Report of an unsecured premise with an open door to the residence. The homeowner was contacted and everything was fine.

1:50 a.m. Report of an unsecured premise with an open garage door to the residence. The homeowner was contacted and everything was fine.

2:01 a.m. Report of a camper matching the description of a stolen camper from another jurisdiction. After investigation, the camper was not the same one that was stolen.

3:49 p.m. Report of an unsecured premise with a garage door open with no one home. The owner was notified by phone.

4:50 p.m. Report of people trespassing, walking on the terraces and not on the designated pathway. The matter was handled by the police.

11:47 p.m. Report of a potential drunk driver. The officer was unable to respond immediately as he was working on another matter.
