Jenks honored

Hot Springs County High School science teacher, robotics guru and student council advisor, London Jenks, was recently awarded the Jeannie Tinnin Advisor Award at the Wyoming Association of Student Councils Conference in Sheridan.

Jenks was nominated for the award by the high school’s student council under the direction of student body president Dani Jo Pebbles. The award is an advisor of the year honor for advisors with less than five years experience.

“I was very surprised to be nominated and even more surprised to be awarded,” Jenks said. “I do believe that the Student Council has improved greatly over the last couple of years.

“A big part of that has been the opportunity for Student Council to run Bobcat Pride every Friday. This has placed a lot more responsibility on the students and provided them with a more visible and prominent leadership position among the student body.

“This has also allowed them to grow as leaders which has led to them having a greater interest in the activities available to students. The Student Council is much more involved in the day to day activities of students then I have ever seen in the 10 years I’ve been at the high school.

“We’ve also grown in participation with every available position being filled and we have even had to add new positions. We have had some great leaders who are truly interested in representing the student body and helping to improve school activity and spirit.”
