Lady Cats win against Lovell

The Lady Bobcat volleyball team saw a lot of court time this past week between playing Lovell at home, then away in Lander, followed by two days of their home tournament.

Against Lovell, the varsity team swept them away in three (25-20, 25-17, 25-23) while the JV and freshman teams both won in two games against the Bulldogs.

"The girls played pretty well against Lovell," coach Shannon Hill said. "We still struggle with consistency, especially behind the serving line. I was proud of the girls though, for staying focused in the third game, even when we let Lovell catch up and go on a run. We managed to hold them and finish that game strong."

Sesi Jensen added 12 kills and six aces to her stats during the Lovell game with Reagan Severance racking up six kills. Dani Jo Pebbles had 17 digs along with 29 assists and Tatum Vialpando jumped for three blocks.

The girls played Lander before their home tournament and unfortunately lost to them in three (22-25, 25-21, 25-18), but played them much better than they have in the past.

Ashley McPhie brought down 10 kills, 17 digs and two blocks against Lander. Pebbles added another 15 digs and 26 assists to her stats. Jensen marked up four more aces and Kaylee DeVries had 12 digs.

"Our tournament started well," Hill said. "We played pretty consistently, not playing down and beat teams pretty handily in pool play. We went 8-0 in pool play and were seeded first in the gold bracket.

"Our JV did well also, finishing 6-2 and playing consistently throughout the weekend."

Varsity played Riverside in their first bracket match and lost in two games (20-25, 21-25). Hill said Riverside is a consistent, scrappy team, so it was difficult to get on any sort of run.

"Consistently throughout the weekend we were in the negatives in our in-system attacks," Hill said. "That is a big factor for us right now, hitting and serving. We are working all week on being mindful with serving and attacking to get us ready for our Worland match on Thursday."

Against Riverside, McPhie had four kills and 10 digs, Jensen dropped three aces and 12 digs and Severance added four kills to her stats. Vialpando also had four kills and two blocks for the match.
