Derby provides thrills

It was an evening of crashing and bashing last Saturday night at the Thermopolis Demolition Derby took over the fairgrounds.

After two main heats with cars, the crowd was entertained by the Herbie Derbie and Truck Derby and then the little guys and gals in the Power Wheels Derby before the Winner's Heat.

The Truck Derby portion of the night featured 14 trucks in a single heat, the largest of the evening.

Fifteen kids between the ages of four and 10 participated in the Power Wheels Derby, showing there is plenty of interest in being a derby driver, even at a young age.

Winners for the evening were Rob Laing, Casper, who took home first place, $3,500 and a trophy. Coming in second was Rick Allison, Casper, with a $2,000 prize and trophy, and Don Harter, Gillette, $1,000 and a trophy.

Mad Dog driver of the night was Allison, who took home an additional $450 and a second trophy.

In the Herbie Derby, first place went to Taylor Sprigg who took home $500 with Heather Bowman taking second place and a $200 purse, both from Thermopolis.

Mike Cook, Mills, took home $1,500 for his first place win in the Truck Derby, followed by Dalton Wright, Mills, in second with $450 with Jason Bowman of Thermopolis finishing third, taking home $200.

Mad Dog driver during the truck Derby was Cook, to took home an extra $150 for his efforts.

Cooper Eddleman, Fort Collins, won $25 in Chamber Bucks for winning the Power Wheels Derby.
