Back to school time

Summer is quickly coming to an end with just a few weeks left before the official start of school.

There’s an old joke about being a teacher…"the best part is June, July and August"…but did you know our school teachers are already back at work?

The staff for the Hot Springs County School District went back to work on Monday, having sessions on professional teaching and development, working on curriculum and getting their classrooms ready for the 2019-2020 school year.

Many of the teachers spent their summer taking advanced education classes in order to ensure our students are getting the best education they can provide with the newest trends in teaching.

Coaches spent their summer taking athletes to camps and special events.

Even the janitorial and maintenance staff spent their summer making repairs and spiffing up the grounds, painting rooms and moving furniture.

I’m sure by now the “lunch ladies” have tried and tested some new recipes for this year, too.

So, while you’re out shopping for school clothes and all the supplies you need for classes to start, think about those who are already back at school and maybe give them a thank you for giving up much of their summer vacation to make sure things are perfect when that bell rings on the first day.
