Carrie Shaffer

Carrie Shaffer, 73, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019. She was able to remain at her home in Foxfield, Colo., and was surrounded and lovingly attended to by her family.

Born Carolyn Lou Andrews to Howard L and Dorothy Kathryn (Jordon) on May 17, 1946, in Springfield, Ill., Carrie spent her entire childhood in the same home, walking to elementary school and eventually graduating from Lanphier High School in 1964. 

After attending college for two years and working for Bell Telephone, she traveled west in the summer of 1968 and there met the love of her life, Dean Raymond Shaffer.

Married on November 27, 1968, in St. Paul, Minn., Carrie and Dean celebrated 50 years of marriage last year.

Carrie’s primary occupation and priority was wife, mother and homemaker. Bridgette being born in 1969 and Brett joining the family in 1972. They enjoyed many family adventures including fishing, camping, and boating as Dean’s job led them from Texas to California and ultimately, in 1980, Colorado.

 In Colorado, Carrie spent over 16 years working at Smoky Hill High School as an office assistant and eventually as secretary to the IB Program. She made and maintained many friendships through her time working for the Cherry Creek School District. She joyfully spent several years as a substitute after retirement. She loved being with her co-workers and the students.

She faithfully served in her local churches both in California and Colorado and is currently a member of Smoky Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Dean Shaffer of Foxfield, Colo .; brother, Howard L. Andrews Jr, “Buddy” of Springfield, Ill .; children, Bridgette (Mitch) Martin of Eagle Rock, Va., and Brett (Amy Beth) Shaffer of Durango, Colo .; grandchildren, Myles, Kate, Susanna, John, Heidi, Nathan, Emily, Josiah, Benjamin, and Oliviet Martin and Gavin Dean and Nova Lou Shaffer; and many nephews and nieces and their families. 

Services will be conducted in two locations, the first being at First Baptist Church of Thermopolis on Wed., June 19 at 10 a.m. with Harvey Seidel officiating and later at Smoky Hill Baptist Church in Centennial.
