Legend Rock hike

Hot Springs State Park is hosting their second hike of the summer with a trip to Legend Rock this Saturday, June 15.

Measuring over 1,300 feet long, there are more than 92 prehistoric panels and more than 300 petroglyph figures. Under the protection of the State of Wyoming since 1973, the site is one of the most fragile in the state’s park system.

If you would like to go on the free hike, meet at Legend Rock at 10 a.m. Lunch will be provided.

To get to Legend Rock, take Highway 120 toward Meeteetse for 21 miles. Watch for the brown and white signs indicating the turnoff at the second Hamilton Dome turnoff and drive west about five miles.

At the intersection, continue west on the graveled Cottonwood Creek Road, then turn left immediately after the second cattle guard.

Follow that road to a “Y” and stay to the left. You will continue down the hill and around a curve to the site.

Along with the hike, there will also be tours of the site.
