Another year in the books

This Sunday marks the graduation for the Hot Springs County High School Class of 2019. It’s been quite a year in the district with accomplishments both academic and extracurricular, and we should all be proud of our Bobcats.

It never fails that whenever graduation nears I’m taken back to those final days I spent as an Alliance, Neb. Bulldog, ready to take on the next steps of life whatever they bring.

I could spend time writing advice about what the graduates should consider as they walk through the halls of Hot Springs County High for the final time and receive their diplomas, but the fact of the matter is everyone has to find their own path and their own experiences. Nothing I was thinking nearly 20 years ago, or in the time since, should have any bearing on what you’re going to see and do in the course of your lives.

Besides, at this point you’ve probably received advice from just about everyone you bump into and might be growing just a bit sick of others telling you what you should and shouldn’t do.

So instead, I’ll express my appreciation to the students for making my first three years in Thermopolis memorable ones. I remember some of the shots I got of you guys when you were sophomores and juniors and it’s been great to see the various activities and accomplishments you’ve been part of, and to root for you on the sidelines whether behind the lens or in the stands.

As you walk across that stage on Sunday, know that you not only have years of memories from Hot Springs County to reflect on for years to come, you’re also leaving the community with fond memories of you.

Go Bobcats, and best wishes for your futures!
