Hunt named superintendent of the year

Hot Springs County School District's Superintendent Dustin Hunt was named the 2020 Superintendent of the Year at the Wyoming Association of School Administrators Annual Conference in Casper last weekend.

The honor will also allow him to be recognized again, along with all the other state winners, in San Diego next February during the American Association of School Administrator National Conference.

"I was humbled and extremely grateful to be nominated," Hunt said, "and was very surprised to receive the award considering the outstanding superintendents in the State of Wyoming."

Other finalists included Charles Auzqui from Arvada-Clearmont, Teresa Chaulk of Kemmerer, Jay Curtis from Powell and Jubal Yenni of Laramie.

"The award to me is not an individual award," he said, "but itself represents the great work of our staff and administration that is truly second to none, our visionary and dedicated Board of Trustees, our amazing students, and the support of a great community that loves its children.

"I consider the privilege of working with children to be the greatest blessing, because they are our most precious resource. I maintain that the reason we built the school buildings is still the same reason we maintain them today, and that is so students can learn.

"I'm very proud of the improvements we have made to student learning in Hot Springs County, and this recognition is just one indicator of the great work our educational team and our students are doing.

"There is work yet to do, and there always will be, but while educating students for today and tomorrow's world can be challenging. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to serve this community in a job and profession I love, with colleagues who will always be my heroes.

"Many thanks to the Hot Springs County School District team and family of educators, Board of Trustees, parents and community, and of course, our fantastic student.

"It is also a pleasure to work with so many other great superintendents across Wyoming, and collaborate on behalf of our students.

"I would be remiss if I did not also thank my wife, Heidi, and my children for all of their love and support. Go Bobcats!"
