The sun will come out

The planet is coming back around on its annual journey, to those glorious days when we get a little bit more sun and still have some light to drive when the workday is over. It also means the snow we received over the holidays is now turning to slush and making the streets and highways a bit more difficult to drive on.

But don’t let that stop you from going out and taking advantage of the longer days. With some snow still on the ground it’s a

good opportunity to put up a snowman, igloo or other structure in your yard. Of course, the temperatures don’t always go up with the length of time we see in the day so it can be just as fulfilling to sit on a porch and take in the bright, glimmering landscape.

Though clouds are still in abundance on some days, more sun means they won’t be staying around as long and giving up more blue skies as we get further into 2019.

The benefits of the additional sunlight are well documented, from allowing more time to activities to overall better health and beating back the winter “blahs.” Mind you, I’ll still spend a lot of my time sipping coffee in my Homer Simpson slippers, binging a few shows, but I’m glad to see the sun return for a few more minutes each day and surely will miss the snow — just a little — when it goes away.

Of course like every year, in a few months I’ll be wanting the temperature to drop again and cursing the heat, but I’ll remain grateful for the sun and enjoy it whenever I can.
