Comments sought on request for discharge into Wind River

The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality recently received a request from DOWL, a surveying and planning company, on behalf of the Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources, for State certification of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, for discharge of dredged or fill material into the Wind River, south of Thermopolis.

The project is to stabilize a bank failure along the Wind River adjacent to the Upper Wind River campground.

The segment is designated a Class 1 water, where point source discharges are prohibited except for storm water and construction related discharges.

The project will involve removal of sloughed material, regrading the slope and placement of approximately 198 cubic yards of rock rip-rap below the ordinary high water mark along about 400-feet of the east bank.

The public is invited to make comment on the project by emailing Eric Hargett with Wyoming DEQ/WQD at 200 W. 17th Street – 4th floor, Cheyenne, WY, 82002, before 5 p.m., May 29.
