Donate now to high school fundraiser for leukemia

The war is on at Hot Springs County High School as the Student Council pits the classes against each other in the Pennies for Patients fundraiser.

Now, through Jan. 26, each of the classes are raising funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Student Council set a goal of $5,000, however, if they raise $8,000, attendance secretary Jessica Smith said she will shave her head.

The winning class will be based on the number of points they have and the class with the most points at the end of the three weeks will receive an extra five minutes of lunch period for an entire week.

The class that raises the most money will receive an ice cream social provided by the Student Council. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is also providing rewards and recognition if the school attains certain goals.

So how do you help?

Parents and the community can get involved, too, since an online donation website has been set up for each class. There is also a general donation page for the entire school.

To donate to the entire school, the online site is http://events.lls.org/pages/rm/HotSpringsCountyHighSchool-2018.

For the senior class: http://events.lls.org/pages/rm/HotSpringsCountyHighSchool-2018/Seniors/Classof2018.

For the junior class: http://events.lls.org/pages/rm/HotSpringsCountyHighSchool-2018/Juniors/Classof2019.

For the sophomore class: http://events.lls.org/pages/rm/HotSpringsCountyHighSchool-2018/Sophomores/Classof2020.

For the freshman class: http://events.lls.org/pages/rm/HotSpringsCountyHighSchool-2018/Freshmen/Classof2021.

The Student Council will be at all home events as well through Jan. 26 with donation buckets if you would like to contribute.
