Free Thanksgiving meal available

Next Thursday marks the beginning of “Over the river and through the woods, to grandmother’s house we go,” season – Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years – a time when families get together in thanks and celebration.

While many of you are gathering around the Thanksgiving table next week with your loved ones close at hand, there are those right here in Thermopolis who have no one to share the holiday feast with or perhaps don’t have the funds to splurge on turkey and all the trimmings.

That’s where People for People comes in.

Early Thanksgiving morning a group of folks will be cooking like crazy, fixing turkeys, stuffing and cranberry sauce, green bean casserole and all kinds of pies to take to the homes of about 70 people in Hot Springs County who would not be celebrating Thanksgiving otherwise.

And they do the same thing at Christmas, too.

Many of us don’t see the recipients on a day to day basis and its hard to come to grips with the fact we have people in our community, young and old alike, who literally need food.

Through donations of food and funds, People for People has been feeding folks in our community for a number of years. The cooks are all volunteers and the people who deliver the meals work for free, too.

If you don’t feel like cooking for Thanksgiving or maybe you’re alone, you can come to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and share a bountiful Thanksgiving meal with some new friends and neighbors, all for free.

They’ll have the customary turkey and all the fixins’ that go with it, starting at noon until 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and partake of the deliciousness.
